MM,
the direction arrow in top diagram must point in direction of pull line... perhaps a small point and the details are important... Just like saying the ladder was "on the ground" in an earlier post... A closer look would make it clear ladder was leaning up on the fence.

So it didn't just fall, it crashed through the fence!

And yes, the arrows are not aiming perfectly. I just meant to show the reduced side load to the tree, which is important to reduce sag in the speedline. It's a smart idea Tom accidently stumbled upon,:p to use one rope instead of a speedline and a seperate guy.

Mike,
the point is you either strive to get the truth put out through words or diagrams etc... or you use the same to editorialize and spin... To me your above statement about it "crashing through the fence" makes it clear which you are more interested in....

You have a lot of experience and knowledge too offer. In that you are a great resource... so it's a shame you do the spin thing, because it hurts your credability when you are arguing a progressive teaching...

I for one have changed my pruning style greatly as a result of your posts and Tom D's... There are a lot more lower limbs on trees around here than there would have been without your contributions. So thank you..
