I've noticed the past year or two that our biggest evergreen tree was looking thin, but tonight I actually looked at it up close and its covered in all this fungus. Does anyone have an idea what this could be? Is it gonna kill the tree? Any remedies or solutions?

Looks like a small shelf fungus fruiting bodies on yr ginourmous (for Iowa) spruce tree. Its got fungus growing inside it and possibly some rot in the center. From your picture it doesnt look that unhealthy though and probably got some years left. Looks like the top got blown out a few times. Only reason I'd worry about that tree is if it was leaning towards that transmission line.

Thanks. Its definitely a big tree. Haven't seen many spruce as big as it. Ill have to see how close it is to the line from another angle.
