In past 2 years squierrls have chewed on my hose in my bucket truck.1st time cost was about 300 and second time was almost 1000 because was in middle of the boom.I have aerial lift of coneticut.Today i was putting some equipment in my chip box and have to raise box so i can open tool box doors.I was told to use product called CRITTER RITTER and i have used it once a month but missed month because it was cold and maybe they went into boom during that time.I can tell it is squierrel because the leak is like niagra falls. This time after i get it fixed i will cover knuckle end of the boom with straps.Im thinking of buying bb gun.I think it is same squirrel because animals are creatures of habit any way i hope it doesnt cost me a grand as things are slow.Just spent 890 fixing my suv water pump and timing belt and all new radiator belts.Any one out there have some stories about these little SOB'S i like animals but now i want to kill :) :)

I Have Starlings Nest In My Bucket Every Year

In The Spring The Nest Usually Falles Out Baby's And All

One Year They Stayed In Until They Were Ready To Fly
I Remember Feeding Them Pizza At The End Of The Boom

As Far As The Squirrel You Can Use A Have A Heart Trap Butttt I Would Just Use A Pellet To The Heart Trap

Hi Sharkfin!

Since your local, you know we had a nice warm winter this year which should make for a bumper crop of tree rats this year.:dizzy:  :dizzy:

Right now their in my yard eating the landscape lights, trailer wiring, downspout tubes, bed liners, trailer lights, tractor seats........

Anyway, heres a thread you might find amusing.

Recommend Gamo .177 caliber air rifle that shoots 1000 fps. One pump; one kill. Knock off a few and the rest will scoot.

Must be the time of year for critter carnage, I don't know yet what the heck got in my car yesterday but I hopped in to find a roll of TP shredded everywhere, gah!
Never eaten squirrel but hear it is tastey, the ones here are not much bigger than mice and the local feral cats have munched most of them, too bad, kinda cute little guys as long as they're not chewing my stuff. Tried raccoon once, tasted like what dogs roll in, bleh. Kk, I go now, still chuckling at RBW's possum tale, eek!

roastem onthe grill or such then slow cookem till the meat seperates from the bone, best eatin next to crab, need to bag a few, never know when your deficient in squirle, in our biz it's probly mored often than not

I use to eat tree rat, I like pheasant and rabbit better.

That's gotta be what happened to my bucket before I got it. I was changing lines after one blew one day and on the inside of the frame rail I noticed it looked like rats ate the lines to the metal, I could see the bite marks. Now it makes sense. We've got an entire family of black ones here at the shop, used to think they were cool, now I'm thinking twice at 90 bucks a line ... crossman ?

Just curious. Do you who have the tree rats eating your lines have black or grey squirrels?
I have never had this problem, but I see where they have chewed through the outside cover on main cable and phone lines that run from pole to pole (not the ones running to house). They don't seem to chew into the actual phone line inside, just the black outside cover.

we've had them for over 30 years in town,,, really don't see them out in the woods...

guy up the street does that.. drops a few with a 22 , lets them sit.... ( they get into his garden,, chew on things.. )

people stop by, and mention,,,

HEY, do you know that there are some dead squirrels on your lawn ??

he tells them ,,yeah i know,,they died of LEAD POISINING !!!!

they walk away wondering how squirrels got into lead out where we live !!! LOL

I'm in north Jersey, but I have never seen any black here. I used to live in Ontario Canada, and there were black there. juststumps... where in NJ are you?

princeton,,, gray in the woods,,, black and grey in town ...had the black ones for as long as i can remember... over 30 years.. maybe its a local thing...

this is from WIKPEDIA::::

Common squirrels include the Fox Squirrel (S. niger); the Western Gray Squirrel (S. griseus); the Douglas Squirrel (Tamiasciurus douglasii); the American Red Squirrel T. hudsonicus; and the Eastern Grey Squirrel (S. carolinensis), of which the "Black Squirrel" is a variant.

you probably have them,, just never noticed... in town they are out in the open,, and used to people feeding them..... never saw one in the woods hunting, or around the house... but i never really cared to look.. just see black ones running around in town..

got flying ones around here also... never saw one til i did a take down a few months ago... thought it was a bat flying out of the tree...bucked down a chunck, with babies in side.. mother was carrying on.. stopped working.. she came back and carted them all off to a new home...

never saw a chipmunk,, til about 10 years ago.... now we got them all over.....

coyotes are here now,, also,, seen a few of them..

got black bears up a little north..

got a few pair of bald eagles nesting nearby,, ive seen...

place is turning into a regular wild kingdom !!!!!!

surprising to see all this stuff that i never saw 30 -40 years ago,, considering all the building going on....
