That's gotta be what happened to my bucket before I got it. I was changing lines after one blew one day and on the inside of the frame rail I noticed it looked like rats ate the lines to the metal, I could see the bite marks. Now it makes sense. We've got an entire family of black ones here at the shop, used to think they were cool, now I'm thinking twice at 90 bucks a line ... crossman ?

SHERIDAN

1.) Black squirrels in the continental U.S. can be traced back to a couple pairs imported from London, UK, I'm told.
2.) To keep them from chewing on equipment, I'm picturing something like a block heater, except with the wires out where the little guys would bump into them. Just plug it in at the end of the day, and maybe have fresh squirrel fritters for breakfast!

Just curious. Do you who have the tree rats eating your lines have black or grey squirrels?
I have never had this problem, but I see where they have chewed through the outside cover on main cable and phone lines that run from pole to pole (not the ones running to house). They don't seem to chew into the actual phone line inside, just the black outside cover.

Update just got my bucket truck back today they have had it since last thursday they were busy so i cant expect them to rush my truck plus it was very cold monday to work on lines in my bucket. They gave me hoses that squirrels chewed.Must of happened during warm weather last monday or tuesday i will post some pictures soon.As far as cost im not sure yet 2 hoses near knuckle are 4 and 5 foot hoses so should not be as costly as last time they chewed long hose in middle of the boom cost was near 1000. this time might be 500 and under.

sharkfin--check if those hoses cant be made elsewhere. the reason i say this--i had a 1 in pressure line blow on the backhoe. i went and had it made at one place. 275 clams!!!!!!!!!! i called napa in other town--they said 125!!!! called another napa a little further away---85!!!!!!! now whos kidding who??????? same identical hose!!! you should be able to replace those hoses yourself--no joke. normally just a pair of open end wrenches to get them apart--along with a clamp or two---

Thanks for advice but its not so easy to replace some of these hoses my self.It is a boom for bucket truck and as we know some times its better to have professoinal do the job then have it cost more money. The good thing for me is hoses are closer to knuckle then middle of the boom.If that squirrel chewed hose in middle is more work to get to the hose.I appreciate the advice i fix things that im able to and if im not sure i wont.

Squirrel Problem

I had a squirrel problem, they were getting into my house, so I went to Wal-Mart and bought a Daisy Powerline 1000 to take care of it. It worked great and if you take care of the squirrel problem within 90 days you can return the pellet rifle for a full refund. You can also buy a squirrel cage trap but you'll still have to shoot them. I researched what to do with them after catching them and by law all you can do is release them back onto your own land or kill them.
