I just got back from west marine to purchase some new cord and also picked a few feet to make some new reins for the horse. They make cowboy style halters out of 1/4 inch sta set and thought it would be cool to have matching reins. Anyway have we drove up the prices of sta set with out new demand? I don't remember paying .99 a foot for 3/8. I also got some T900 8mm for 1.99 and just 3/8 DB for .49 a foot. That just seemed like a rip off. If I hadn't just drove an hour to the big city of Philadelphia I wouldn't have paid that much.

Hey BigJohn, you should check out a web site called, ubraidit.com
I am pretty sure they sale stayset and other webbing as well as parachute cord in just about every color. I use that parachute cord for just about everything, and they also have a how to book on braiding reins, halters, headstalls and just about every other cowboy related application. Take a look.

I'll definately have to check that out. I was just asking my fiance on tying a cowboy halter. I saw somewhere on how to tie it but just don't remember where. I've made her a couple lead lines that she really likes. The ones you buy at the store are usually stitched or glued with some crimp. The splice really looks sharp.

I used to do a lot of braiding and made a bunch of tack out of that parachute cord. I even have a few saw lanyards that I braided out of the stuff. Are you talkin about making a halter out of one piece of rope? They sale them at pretty much any tack store, and they are pretty easy to figure out. All you need it about a dollars worth of rope and about half an hour to figure it out. It beats paying 15 bucks for one.

We had a roll of samson 3/8 stable braid at work. We got it a little over a year ago and just ran out. The company hasn't replaced it yet. We were surprised they bought it to begin with.

I love it for my tress cords.

They got tenex at around the same price on that site, if you want to just do some hollow braid splices for the halters.
