Just got my 056 Magnum II running and after starting it 3 or 4 times the rope has the outer cover sheared about 6" down from the handle. Happened on rope that came on the saw, and a new Stihl rope we put on at John Lamber's "Chainsaw Fest" today. The bushing seem in good shape, no sharp edges. Am I missing something real basic? P.S. Had a Great Time! Thanks Mike

Hi Mike, shorten the rope to the minimum possible without bottoming it out when in the withdrawn position. What is happening is the spool cannot accomidate all the rope and the flywheel is eating it up.

Decomp Valve

No it doesn't have one, so it is like cranking over an 066 without opening the valve. I think that gentle starting method of yours makes sense. Thanks Mike

well rocks rite again.. any 2 cycle that wont start with the method he mentioned.. wont stay in my lineup..
it hurts just watching some folks startum..
