Crack that you see is soild board is 3 inchs thick just going to make it look that much better.

and you look at that crack,,and wonder,,why didnt the whole tree break in half,,and fall??? any tree when its young--i prune off branches,,that would eventually make it crotch up like that...ash are really bad for it--

I dont mangae trees just the way this one came out. Will look Awesome as a bar top or coffee table. Got to let the tree become what its going to become. Thats what makes it a live edge funiture piece.

Nice color!!! Was that tree green or live, or dead and not yet rotted. The walnuts here seem a bit darker cut live.

Cut live over a year go. Has been milled for about a month and your right it will turn black if I am not careful. Not sure what its going to be yet or may even sell it. Like to leave that part up to the finnish product. It is only coated with bees wax right now.

I have sold some walnut boards I milled dirt cheap just to finance my chainsaw habit, what would you expect to get for a board like that one??? Also, it is 3" thick, how long and wide???

You coat all the surfaces with bees wax? I just put anchor seal on the ends, nothing on the faces. That is a lot of bees wax- where do you get that much cheap?? I am new to milling and am trying to learn the basics still.

Finally got my mill working well!!

What chain did you use and did you plane it or is that the sawed result???

You are only 2 hours from me, do all the walnut trees by you have that color or is that one unique???

The grain patter is unique. Color on this one dont read much into that. There is a bee's wax on it and the color not completely set in yet (Moisture is still over 10 percent). For example a little bit of Minerial oil and that board would turn black in seconds. Onces its black its much harder to get a good photo of the grain. It does have quite a bit of purple. Just got to rember this is a cheep cell phone pic.
