Hello,
Iam new to this forum. Can someone pls help?.
I have a Sthil 009l chainsaw. The piston and cylinder both are scored, so have bought new pistion/cylinder kit, bearing and seals on ebay from the states.

I need help putting it back together. There are 12 cylinder bearing on the con rod to the crank shaft. what is the best install method for these bearings?

Use either grease or vaseline to make the rollers and the crank sticky, installl the rollers then slide the rod over the rollers. There is a Stihl tool to hold it all in place , Ill attach a photo of the tool. You can do it without the tool but install the piston on the rod first if you try it with out the tool, less chance of knocking all apart that way.

Stihl 009l

Thanks sedanman,

When I rebulit it i was told to keep the marking on the crown of the piston towards the exhaust port and not to twist the cylinder on to the piston as this can damage it. Just have push it on staight with some 2 stroke oil of course

Is the above correct or is there something you like to add.

That's the way. The 009 does not require a ring compressor, just ease the ring in with your fingers.

Stihl 009

sedanman I owe you one
My other question what is the best way to install the 2 clip on the piston after puting the piston pin .

Should I install the 2 cylinder gasket, crank case gasket and carb gasket dry??

All the gaskets go on dry. The clip is hard to explain, but get one end in and spin the clip in, easier to demonstrate.

Stihl bearing

I am not sure how to install the two bearing ( crank side and chain side) and there seals

I noticed there marking on one bearing side. Does the marking side seat on the inside or outside of the crank case. Do I " bash" the bearing from the inside or outside?
