New guy, just picked up an 009L that doesnt spark (at least). Figured I'd clean and inspect the oiler while waiting for a coil.

The oiler tubing was very hard so cut it just past the oiler pump barb fitting. Surprised by a spring in the tube. Seems to wind far up into the tube. What is the spring's purpose? Pocket knife crimped a little of it so clipped off some of it.

The tube is WAY too hard to ever fit over the pump' s barb fitting so need to replace. Can the tube be replaced without splitting the case? How important is that spring?

Thanks,

I think u can feed the line from the top where the oil comes out from. Remove the little brass bullet fitting.
the spring keeps the line from getting kinked from bending and restricting the oil flow

Thanks. I'll have another look at the exit port. Seems logical that fitting should be removable. Splitting the case to attach a tube would be a real hassle.

Should have left it alone, got it running, then checked whether oiler needed work. But I'm a hopeless tinker and just had to see the diaphragm, which looked OK. It was well stuck to the pump and I dared not pry it loose to give it a look against backlighting (to see holes).

Might order some diaphragm kits from that fellow overseas who started making them. Once I actually get the engine running.

I suspect it's like other Stihl oiler lines, stiff as a Sailor on shore leave, that needs gentle heating to fit over the barbs. As mentioned the spring keeps the line from kinking, don't omit it.

I've not replaced the line on the 009 I have, so not sure if it can be pushed through outlet hole by the bar mounts, then grabbed inside case with hemostats? Shop manual does not address this but gives hose dimensions : 3.1 X 5.7 X 155mm, # 0000 930 2803 is a 1 M length. I'd be curious to learn how to replace the whole hose too.

The pump internals are NLA, but a member here from Germany is making pump parts. Someone have the link to that bookmarked?

PS, welcome to AS and chainsaw forum.
