I don't imagine it will be much trouble testing an 010 but it is worse than some of the newer saws. My 041 had to have a lot of stuff removed to test it. What I use is a blood presssure bulb, some small air hose, a tee fitting, and a vac/pressure gauge. Cheapest tester you can buy, I imagine.

Tried my compression tester on my new, rebuilt, working 268xp. It says 90psi [emoji23]

No, I'd say my compression tester is at fault. I'm borrowing another.

Next step is to vacuum test, and maybe replace the reed valve since its one of the few things I haven't replaced.

Then maybe a bit of neat fuel in the bore but I don't think it's a fuelling issue because I get plenty of of the exhaust. So I'm thinking timing or compression now really.

Update, from speaking to a mate he suggested my starting procedure might be off. So I tried pulling it over with no choke and some throttle and I managed to get it fired up. It even made a decent cut before dieing.

So we know compression and timing are OK.

So two questions,

1. What might make the starting easier?

2. What makes the pull start lose tension? I've tensioned it several times and something slips, leaving me with about 5" of slack. It can't be the outside anchor of the spring because it's wedged. So it must be the inside. What can I do to make it grip better?

Thanks,

Gaz

P.s I fitted the new coil too and ditched the little ignition unit. If nothing else it makes bolting the side cover back on easier because I don't have to try and ground the ignition unit.

Would that coil also be a plug and play on my 012AV? I noticed my spark plug wire is about shot.

From what I've read they're very similar. The ht lead does need quite a nasty bend in it to fit in the case (and I think I used the ht lead and plug cap from my old coil) but it does fit, and work.

Hey Gjohn86

Ive read your thread about some issues thats exact the same as mine flooding carburetor and runs like sh*t actually .

So it was the ignition coil that was the culprit ?
Then il order one its a shame the one that mounted is alot newer than the saw and has a strong spark .
Im thinking its the breaker thats bad and those ones i just cant seem to find anywhere.
