I like it! Looks like its running great. Great thread and pic documented. :msp_thumbup: Looks like you need to hang out a shingle - you do great work! :msp_thumbup:

The more I run it the more I like it myself. I know that this saw would be faster with .325, but its easier for me to keep all my stuff 3/8".

Thanks! I may "hang out a shingle", as you say, one day. I'm still in the research and development stages of porting at the moment. This is only the 6th saw that I have every ported. The one thing that I liked the most about this saw was the fact that it required no machine work to achieve the squish that I was looking for. I do have access to a lathe since my FIL is a machinest.

Beautiful job! What's your compression on that saw now? Those 026 saws are my favorite little Stihls. Mine (unported) runs a 16-inch B&C in 3/8 with no problem at all buried in hardwood.

I think you could get $300+ for it pretty easily.

The compression was 175psi after a few heat cycles. I ran about a tank through it today. I'm sure that it will climb a little more. It's had less than a tank and a half ran through it so far.

I wanted to update the thread to let everyone know how the 026 is doing. Compression has reached 185. I think that's as high as its gonna climb. I've been cutting quite a bit with it. Its my go to saw around the house. Tonight I finished upgrading the carb and intake boot. I went with a walbro hd carb and an 038 boot. Choke and air filter still function. The filter cover is a little tight going on because of the extra length of the carb. I also went with longer carb studs from an ms290. Here's what it looks like now.

I'm going to try that setup !

Cool.

Which HD carb? And how much linkage modification was necessary? (if any)

Hd18 I think. I swapped the impulse nipple from my 026 carb to the HD because it was longer. I also removed the choke and turned some plugs on my lathe for the choke rod holes. Then I used my dremel to remove a lot of the aluminum around the carb needles so I wouldn't have to modify the air box so much. I also got rid of the snorkel on the diaphragm cover. Used same 026 fuel line and impulse line. I did manipulate the nipple where the fuel line attached to make the line hook up easier. No throttle linkage modification was necessary. You also have to open up the air filter quite a bit to match the carb bore.

That is a great sounding saw! Like others have said, my 026 has quickly become my favorite saw. I have a 'two saw plan' right now that includes an 026 and MS660. Just skip everything in the middle.

I dunno about the saw being faster with .325". My 026 build ended up with 3/8" because, like you, I wanted all my stuff to have 3/8". I was worried about how it would pull it but have since learned that a ported 026 really likes 3/8". I swapped back and forth trying to determine which is faster cutting. In my case, 3/8" has it by a long ways.
