I'm rebuilding a 028 and it was missing the air filter cover. I found a nice one on eBay and purchased it. It lines up perfectly but the thumb screw isn't long enough to grab the pin inside the filter. Admittedly I purchased an aftermarket filter that had good reviews and seems to be of good quality. Has anyone experienced this problem and could it be that this came from a different variant or possibly a super although I would think they are the same. Here is a picture of the part number on the cover. I have ordered a new thumb screw after filing it down with a Dremel to try and make it work.

Thanks. Jason.

My 028 and 028super have a screw for attaching to air filter.

You can see it in this pic.

Mine came with the black plastic knob. Is the metal screw a little longer? I have a super that I'm going to do down the road so I can use this one on it if I need to buy another one.

I can take you some pics tomorrow of cover, filter and screw length if it will help?

I think yours is definitely different. Here is the kind of filter and screw I have. Mine is a WB, don't know if it matters.

Have you tried putting filter in the cover and see if it will attach while off the saw?

Mine is a WB as well, and my Super is the same.

I'm thinking I need to buy a different cover but I don't want to just keep spending money not knowing for sure that I'm buying the right cover. Matt was nice enough to send me an IPL list for the 028 and it shows 1118 140 1905 or one ending with 1900 just like pioneerguy mentioned earlier. Now my current one is 1118 141 1000, that's not on the IPL list but neither is the one Matt has pictured above. What am I missing here?

Thanks. Jason.

I had the same problem with my 038. I ended up taking a washer out of the filter knob assembly and epoxying a bolt inside the aluminum nut on the cover and screwing it into the filter. Not perfect but it holds the cover on at least.

Is that the aftermarket one pictured? I never saw an aftermarket one with a Stihl part number on it, nor the Stihl name.

Here's one I have .....1001. Metal screw but I've used them interchangeably. It looks like wrong filter. The center is a hole through it. The screw theads on carb. Let me know, I could send you this cover, blistered from fire and an old air filter. Ed

Doesn't matter if WB or Super, they should all work.
