How big of a bar should one of these pull? Its got 20" Stihl bar on it now, dont have it running yet, dont know if its going to be too much bar or not enough.

Also, this saw has about the coolest muffler ive EVER seen on a saw, with that big ol single dump tube..more saws should be like that.

You're probably gonna get a couple answers...

031av has low end grunt, should be acceptable, but not great.

Depends on what you're cutting, should be ok in softwoods, it will bog in hardwoods.

For best performance, reduce to 16 or 18 inches.

I know what I'd do, though!! If its got a 20 inch bar on it, run that!! Keep the chain razor sharp and see if the setup makes you happy. If not.. well, you know what to do!

Enjoy!

Red I am going to get teh recoil out ot you tomorrow. Do you need just little piece on the side of the flywheel cover or the whole thing?
Bob

There's two types of insert recoils - two screw and three screw. You can put a three on a two.. I think.. The three also has a small oblong metal piece that bridges the screw to the case.

Mine has 1 screw hole at 11 0clock and one at about 5 0clock. Dont see any other ones. The flywheel shroud and gas tank is all there, its just missing the little cover that actually houses the recoil.

I cant wait to make this thing run. It looks really fun to use. I like the low slung profile it has. Still has the front muffler and rear handle, but its not really tall.

Its in good shape, has the air filter, filter cover, choke lever and everything.

The 2 screws that hold on the bottom of the handle are missing though, anyone know what size and thread they are? Also, on the cover, what size and thread are they supposed to be?

If you are talking side cover, they are M5x18, pan head.

Handle - M5x18 pan head also, assuming you mean the two screws that mount the rubber buffer to the crankcase.

The little insert that holds the recoil.

There is supposed to be a rubber buffer between the handle and the body on the bottom of the loop handle?

Ive got 2 holes in the flange, and 2 holes in the body..I guess it sandwiches between them?

The recoil screws are M4x16.

Yes, there is a rubber buffer - but is is not just the rubber- it is also the metal flange. part 1115 790 9901
