I copy above because I cannot figure out which 14"(I'd guess the open on bottom design)...is the bar I'd use to shorten up the power-train[bought used saw on ebay w/ 18" bar/chain: feels like a boulder).

Suggestions?(I'm new to sawing and woefully alone in my use of the machines[up to 8 now, though only five run; 'all acquired recently because I use wood for heat and cooking]){I see what I think works on ebay, but all listings cite only small saws for those bars}-Gil Wirt

Welcome to the AS forum.

Most any of the Stihl 3003-XXX-YYYY prefixed bar part numbers will work on that S032.
Jump back into FleaBay or go to your local dealer & search the 3003 bars to see what bars fit your need.
The "open on bottom", or 3005 series bars won't fit....

What pitch chain is on the saw now?, as that sets the existing drive sprocket pitch too.

Do you want to run .325, or 3/8" pitch chain like your other saws?

It gives you a headache with all the sprocket/bar/chain options......but 14" bars are short for that series.

Thanks for the info. 'Found one in U.K. my pitch(3/8), none here, and that one recommends pico, which is not the chain I want; I'll go w/ something 16" here(though only a 2 inch shortening on a way-too-heavy setup bothers me); I'm down to a NOS Zip-Penn laminated bar or a Taiwanese Rotary; the former runs 56DL chain, which is cheaper to buy later, and seems like a more aggressive setup, so I'm leaning that way; the Rotary runs 60DL(I will be using this in local forest for hardwoods on inclines and/or soft wood on gentle slopes: lots of tough stance-angles[Angeles Nat'l. Forest, considered most-rugged John Muir had hiked]); I want a lightest-possible setup; I have a power mac 700(and a downed pm605) for field-harvesting, but feel undergunned(my other saws are: a Dolmar 111 w/ way-too-big 18" bar I want to replace w/ 14" setup; Husky 142 w/ old Homelite 16" 3/8 .050 chain{on a .043 designated saw haha}; 33cc Poulan wood shark; and Stihl ms192tc arborist saw[w/ a yellow-marked Stihl chain, 'is a funny setup]); this 032av has to be a capable work-saw for me.

That should work fine for it, 3/8" standard chain on a 16" is better balanced anyways.

Check the sponsors here on AS & with your local guys for pricing too....FleaBay sux most of
the time for new Stihl bar pricing.

The one in the U.K. shows a closed ended bar, 14"(picco, not my preference, but bearable)
[search " STIHL CHAINSAW GUIDE BAR 14" ROLLOMATIC GUIDE BAR 3/8" PICCO 1.1MM 3003 000 3909 #252306656311 " on ebay]

another seller sells the same model number with an open end!?[search: "
