my father in laws 034 leaked all the bar oil out in the case since winter,i filled it up with oil, removed the b&c,and the clutch and let it sit on my workbench for a couple of days,it is leaking where it is supposed to come out at,i am not real familiar with an 034,it does not have the inner guide plate or a threaded hole for a screw for one,i have read all the archives on this that my fellow AS friends have posted,i believe the vent is the problem,i think the vent is the round plug with a hole in it behind the front bar stud, anybody had this problem, can you still buy these vents?thanks for all the info,P.S. for some of you, i know,i know should have bought a husky,lol:msp_biggrin:

the stihl dealers should stock the vent ,they just pound out and pound back in ,ive replaced a bunch

step1.........unscrew non flippy cap on 034( you may need a bar wrench to loosten this is not tool less on this saw )

step 2 .......dump the bar out (preferably not on the ground)

Step 3....... look in oil tank through cap hole and find silver vent (its about size of a pencil eraser)

step 4 ........find a long punch or a screwdriver may work and drive the old vent outwards

step 5........ pound new vent back in with small hammer ,should be flush with the case outside when done

hope this is enough info ,they are pretty easy to change actually

some 034 have a tim chain guide ,some dont over the bar studs if it does ,you have to remove it ,the vents under it

thanks for the info!!!!trx250r180:msp_thumbup: you have been a great help,it looks like the designer on this particular model quit halfway through, but i have heard that these run pretty good for an old school:biggrin:

i think i might try to go pound something out but it won't saw i'm working on,see you guys tomorrow!

I have a 034 av and Ive noticed it before it leaks I think too much bar oil. Ran it for a good 3 minutes tday and I had oil on the outside of clutch cover inside clutch cover was soaked where do you start. Went on utube I dont have that I can see an oiler adjustment screw so for 3 minutes tday it looked like the Exxon Valdiaz landed on my saw. Any replys greatly appreciated.

It’s possible that the oil line (or lines) has failed. The only way to know for sure is to identify where the oil is coming from. If it’s from under the clutch drum, it could be a line or the pump itself. Investigate and take pics if you can.

True, but the most recent poster in this thread said he had issues with it running. Typically that means the line from the oiler to the bar pad area has failed. The clutch drum can cut it above the outlet. If a poor quality line was used, it may have just failed with heat. It’s possible it’s something else, hence the need for pics.

Again, true—/ but people reading this in the future should know that the 1125 series (034, 034S, 036, 360) can develop leaks at the oil line running from the pump to the case/bar pad. I’ve been into a lot of these saws (and own a dozen or so), so if there’s a leak from under the drum while it’s running, one should carefully inspect the system (easy to do on this series).

The leaks can be found and stopped but it takes some investigation by the saw owner as there is several places where leaks can occur on the Stihl saws. The pump itself, the lines from the pump to the bar pad, sealing of the pump to the oil pickup line at the tank wall, the tank vent if its check ball is stuck and even a few times I have found cracks in the chassis casting likely caused by over stressing the bar studs, over tightening the bar stud nuts or using overly long bars on smaller chassis saws. Some probing, cleaning and disassembly required.

Thank you Pioneerguy600. I bought it used the guy started it up and shut it down. Then I used it and said what the heck is going on with bar oil its everywhere even on the outside of the clutch cover which was strange. Took it to a place that services sthil they tuned it up and the owner said you have to really tighten down on the bar stud nuts these are people that supposedly know Sthil chainsaws in and out. Thanks Pioneerguy600 again.

They may be partially correct though but over tightening will not stop a leak. If the bar is not mating up nicely to the bar pad of the crankcase extension then oil can leak between the chain bar and the cast metal plate where the oil gets channeled into the hole in the bar. I have had occasions where I needed to remove the bar studs, they thread out and once out draw file the pad flat and true. If the bar stud nuts have been over torqued then the metal around the studs can be stressed/pulled up from its normal position preventing the bar from sitting nice and flat against the pad.

I think I found the leak. To begin with Im no small engine guy the most I ever did to my saws was clean filters or replace them, clean the bar and sharpen the chains fill em up and go.Like I said in earlier post I took it to a Sthil dealer and they couldnt find the leak. So I went to utube and watched videos on the Sthil 034av took it apart all the way down to the oil pump. The hose that comes off the oil pump to the oiler hole was barely on the pump itself That might explain the bar oil on the outside of the clutch cover. Got a can of carb cleaner cleaned the whole oilpump area it looks new put the line back on all the way down to the stop ran it no oil coming up on clutch cover shut it down and wanted to see how much oil leaked not running, checked it today got oil on the cardboard the size of a quarter. Im real happy with the results for never attempting this and no extra parts left over. Thanks for all the replys on my saw.
