Hello,
I am new to this forum, but am learning a lot...many thanks! I'm currently replacing the jug and piston on a Stihl 036 chainsaw, after the old piston and rings were scored. From what I've heard, the piston needs to be orientated so that the arrow mark on top is facing the exhaust side. I'm just reaching out to the experts to make sure I put it in right, so I don't screw it up!! If anyone would have a link to the 036 service manual, that would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your help.
Blessings,
Ron

long story this. the theory say yes but , we have aftermarkets without arrow, aftermarkets with wrong place arrow, we have models with rings one to carburator and one to muffler side, and i have hear for oem with wrong arrow, better someone who have rebuild this model 036 can tell you exactly what happend.

Thanks. This saw made it about 14 years in a state park setting before someone ran it withou enough oil in the gas. We'll keep searching for a service manual.
Merry Christmas!
