Have a look and see for yourselves. Did the best I could with my phone. It appears there are some marks on the right side of the intake side. Still waiting on that Tilly.

$200.00-300.00 all cleaned up(no dust, etc.), complete and fully functional it would eventually sell locally around here, probably take awhile. $500.00 is a good clean 440/460 price range, 441 as well. For an 038 to compete it would have to be very clean, in almost new condition.

The 028s and 038s have to go internet to get much $. Stick it on eBay.

Include the Bing for the sale to the diehard fans and expect to get dinged around a bit over the air filter. Do not replace the OEM air filter with a AM one, die hardship will take the OEM bare.

it is my understanding the 038 Magnums were Brazilian made and the Mag II's were German made. I got that from the internet so it's gotta be true.

038AV, Supers, Mag's and the later Mag II were all made in West Germany/Germany before and after the reunification took place. The 'made in west Germany' badges were still used after the West and East unified.

The only ones made in Brazil I believe were the newer (but basically the same) MS380 and MS381, these are still sold in Indonesia and the likes.

Yeah...that range is a bit more realistic. I tend to be quite proud of my equipment. I own that. I'm cheap on the buy and high on the sell.

I have every intention of cleaning her up good. I've got no use for the Bing so it'll go with it. The only reason I'm replacing it is the new Tilly was cheaper than the Bing rebuild kits I could find and the diaphragms weren't in bad shape which led me to think it was a faulty carb.

I have the air filter and filter cover. The saw is complete. Just didn't have it on for the picture. I'll likely post it locally before I resort to the bay. I appreciate your input!

Just slightly confused you are OK with it being worth 200 to 300 dollars? It seemed like you were upset about it not being worth more. Mayb I missed something.

That's the issue with reading messages on social media. The tone is interpreted by the reader. I was never upset. Hopefull? Yes. If anything else, mildly disappointed. No big deal. I'm gonna run the old girl through the parts washer and get her going again. We can go from there

Got ya I guess it was the initial post about top price and what u saw on ebay that confused me. I was mad I didn't bid on an 038 magnum in about the same condition, but with all the parts and no cylinder pics, a couple months ago that went for under 200 dollars. Now the same thing is near 400 dollars and I won't pay that. I'm sure urs will sell fine.

Over here in the UK I think I will struggle to make £250 for this if eBay sales are anything to go by.. It is in v.good condition and runs like a champ.. The only things that let it down are the AM top covers..

I don't see a big deal about the AM vs. OEM, especially in the plastic parts. My Magnum has aftermarket parts and they're certainly better than the parts they replaced...

That's why I hate to sell saws on the internet, you never know what kind of buyer you're gonna get...half of the buyers want a chainsaw that can be used and the other half act like they're running a museum...

I'm with you on that one, I just know a lot of people want OEM for that 'quality' etc.. Even when the parts are nearly 30 years old.. go figure :dumb2:

The thing I don't want is the Chinese cheap rebuild when I think I'm getting a quality saw. If I see a saw that says fresh rebuild I won't even think about it unless it says what AM kit. Especially a ms290. You pay the same price whether it's all stihl or farmtec.

I don't see anything wrong with selling a saw with aftermarket parts if you state that in your ad. I think I'd rather have a new piston and cylinder that's aftermarket than a scored OEM one. Most of the Stihl saws I get in anymore have scored cylinders and pistons and stuck rings and I know I can't sell them that way. If I bought a new Mahle piston/cylinder for the saws I'd have more in them than I could sell them for, then you have the ebay fees and postage. I usually try my luck with the AM kits and state in the ad what it is and what the compression is. If they're not good enough to sell I just use them myself..

But do you think a stihl saw with a 30 dollar piston kit in it should be worth the same as a saw stihl saw with a good factory piston and cylinder? I've read a lot of listings on ebay that just say fresh rebuild. I've never asked any sellers about it either...

I got a farmtec fly wheel the key stripped out in 10 minutes then I bought a new stihl one.

I'm not against AM parts I just feel like some parts may not be as good of quality.

Got an 038 Mag. It has an oem bottom end and a bing carb. It has a hyway cylinder and caber rings on it. The covers are am. Muffler is farmertec. It is hard to part with as it is one tough powerful torque monster that flattened my old 044 in the big stuff. And the 044 was full oem with no issues. I have no issues with AM stuff. I just ask for pictures from the seller of what's in the box before I buy.
