stihl 038av Muff Mod

Yeah, doesn't sound bad. I should be a bit more patient! I'm going to mod an 038FB muffler to get the best out of a mag jug - so that'll be quite a bit of opening.
Hope my welding is up to it, should be I think. Going to use a MIG, so will make sure everything is nice and clean.

There would be nothing wrong with brazing it, as long as you have it good and clean.
It's easer to manage on thin stuff.

With MIG you want to use some of that small wire (down in the twenty+ thou range)

You can do the stop/start method, like making a string of pearls.

doesn't mean you can't give advice - you're clearly handy with a welder, and are making logical moves with the muff mod, so keep going!

I'd be concerned if I had to do a cut up close to a stump/branch about the "megaphone" hanging up.

It's making lots of power.

The exhaust note is lower and throatier (and louder).

The pipe is a full 7/8" (took the 3/4" insert out)

Just made the Meg as a lark, but it works great.(I think it is what has allowed me to go up the extra 1/8")

You are right, it is in the way, bigger dogs would fix that. I might heat and bend it up and back a little, or cut a wedge out and reweld.

I'll get it right next time.
