I have a stihl 041 that I believe needs the electronic ignition assembly. I need the coil and triggering device. Does anyone have a used assembly.

My chainsaw is running very rough. It idles rough, but better than at full throttle and when you give it full throttle it falls on its face. The saw revs up and then bogs down as if you shut the switch off, then revs up again as if you turned the switch back on. I widened the gap on the spark plug and it would not fire it. I took the same plug to my homelite and it fired it easily. I believe it is intermittently not firing, but i don't know if its the coil, triggering device or magnets on the flywheel.

I have tried adjusting the carb with no luck. Any Ideas?

If it runs it's probably not the ignition, look at the carb sounds like it's running out of fuel at higher RPMs. Check pulse line and fuel filter, a rebuild kit will cost about $10. Stihl doesn't make the ignition for the 041 anymore and the only way to get one is used.A carb kit is the first thing I would do.

No familiarity with that model here, but in general terms I'd spend the 10 bux or so(?) on a carb kit and try that first.  It sounds like intermediate fuel delivery as much as anything.

explain "runs rough at idle" what is it doing exactly? Is this something that the saw just starter doing all of the sudden? Have you adjusted the carb at all Lalo? If you have then there is a good chance that you have the "L" idle screw too rich. This will cause the saw to run rough while idling and starts loading it up and when you hit the throttle it floods and kills. Sometimes you can feather the throttle and get it to clear out and it will run. If this sounds familiars then I would reset my carb.

I have an 041 that had a similar problem. I bought this saw used. The symtoms you describe sound like fuel starvation to me. Check the gas line from the top of the tank that goes into the carb. Mine simply had a small kink in it.Keep us posted, Ken

I know its not starving for fuel. My brother and I tried every adjustment we could and it would not clear up. Even at idle, it sounds like its not firing all the time. At full throttle, fuel sprays out the top of the carb, like its getting too much. We tried to richen and lean the fuel with no luck. When it acts up,it runs as if you turned the switch off while its running and then turned it back on about 10 crank revolutions later. The saw will not obtain full throttle. This happened one day when I was cutting wood. One minute it worked fine, then the next it didn't. About a week later it ran ok for about 5 minutes when cutting and then did the same thing.

Another thought.

I tried another spark plug, with no luck. When I removed the one that was installed in it was wet. This leads me to believe that fuel is rich or spark is insufficient. however, leaning the fuel mixture did no good. could I have a weak coil? At idle it runs, but cuts out and then gains rpm by itself. could I have enough spark for idling, but not enough when loading the engine.

Fuel sprays out the top of the carb?  Like I said, get a kit and put new innards in the carb.  It sounds like a diaphragm or pump checks not working correctly anymore.

Check the black poly block that sits under the carb, the two screws that hold that down might be a little loose causing a small air leak.

ah-yes. the stihl 041.....
i thought i had this one sold for $100.00. the fella never showed up to get it. been sitting under the workbench for about two years and needs a real good cleaning. nice running saw but the 041 did like to shake it self apart. marty

Thank you to all those who responded to my post. I will try the carb kit first and hope for the best. God Bless.
