Hello, I'm new here because I'm looking for some help with a saw I purchased. Last fall I started looking on ebay for a used saw because I couldn't afford a new saw that was worth it and I was tired of buying the throw away saws at the home stores. I finally got a decent deal on a 044 mag that was in good condition. When I got it it wouldn't run so I did all the checks and found about 5lbs of compression. I e-mailed the guy and ebay, but because the listing said "as is" I had no recourse even though the listing said ran good also. Any way I discovered the piston was junk and so was the jug. It sat all winter until recently I found a used honed jug at a local joint and I bought one of those Golf brand pistons from ebay because I couldn't find a 10mm wrist pin piston around here. Well I installed it and it ran great for about 10 seconds then it started clanging and before I could shut it down it locked up. The top of the piston and the top ring blew apart and now I have a bunch of little pistons running around my workbench. So because the 10mm is out dated and harder to find parts for can I replace the crank with the newer 12mm? You can find new jugs and pistons all over for the 12mm but there is nothing around for the 10mm. I don't want to give up on the saw, I just want on that is reliable and able to do just about anything I ask of it. Any help, guidance, tips or tricks would be greatly appreciated.
