If you plan to mill a lot pull the air filter cover off and just run it that way. Those HD2 plug up easily with the smaller chips from milling.

I thought about it. But when I put it away tonight it wasn't that bad, really. Maybe a tablespoon of dust in it.

With the new filter and bored out dual port muffler:

Dropped a 22-24" diameter pine the other day, took about 2 minutes. This saw is an animal, I love it.

I'll never forget the day my 046 Mag arrived, bought used as a non-running saw. The original owner had installed a new carb and the low-speed limiter refused to allow enough fuel on board. I removed that, gave it a half turn further open, and it started right up. This saw is a keeper, and I got it for less than one-third the list price of a new 460. Always starts, idles perfectly, rarely bogs down, and cuts like a bandit. What more could I want?

Love my 046 Mag as well. It's a bit on the heavy side for me, but just can't stop using it because of the power. Runs circles around my buddies when bucking logs :)

It's heavy, but really not THAT heavy, considering how much power you get out of it. I love the damn thing, I gambled, but I feel like I won. Best damn saw I've ever owned.

The Mag designation on many of them means nothing (it sold saws). If you post the first 3 digits of your SN, we can likely tell you if it is a D chamber saw, they were only put on early production 046s.

As Brad eluded to earlier, after you put the HD-2 and DP muff cover on (+ open the stock muffler hole), you will need to make the tune a bit richer. Make sure the saw "4 strokes" (breaks up a bit) when at WOT and not in the wood. It should smooth out as soon as it is in the wood. Running a saw too lean will burn it up fast.

I would change the plug, fuel line & filter, and check the impulse line & boot and make sure they look good. Air leaks will make a saw run lean and burn it up.

They are very nice saws, a little heavy for limbing, but great for bucking. Also, very durable.

Congrats.

Hey, does this mean I get to make fun of someone else for mentioning HD-2 & DP cover!!!!!!

My first three digits are 136.....do I have a D chamber saw?

Thanks

I would say YES if it is original. Any chance it came factory with a dp muff cover?

You can check by removing the muffler and putting one of those automotive mirrors in there to look.

Lucky you, I almost had one last year, but then the guy sold it to someone else after he had agreed to sell it to me.

Mine is all original and is a DP. I bought it from the original owner. Love that saw!

Thanks for the info. There's a lot worse things than having a 46 D to come home to every night :)
