Hi all, I recently picked up this 048 and I am trying to determine about what year it is.

What might it be worth on eBay? Or locally (Northern California)

I'm also looking for some information about the manufacturer of the cylinder.

I'd like to get a full wrap handle for it but it's proving to be difficult to find many parts for this model.

Any information, comments, or advice would be appreciated!!

I actually just sold an 048av in similar condition, but with slightly more paint scuffing for $450 shipped. Good luck with the wrap handle - they're super hard to find. And you will need the accompanying clutch cover to go with it. There are quite a few previously hard to find parts out there available from Proline now. And Chainsawr has quite a bit of parts for them too.

Probably a Mahle cylinder manufactured for Stihl. Factory original. The B indicates a piston size. Don't know particulars but think fractions of thousandths. I don't think there were many aftermarket parts for these saws.

You are going to have a hard time finding anything for this model. They weren't very well received and were eclipsed by the 038s and later 044s. Check the crankcase half screws. They liked to work loose and cause air leaks. I think original was slotted, later was allen head. I swapped in even later Torx.

Also, nice looking saw.

I have found that there are actually a lot of used parts available, because people seem to be parting these saws after not being able to find parts for them. Check out the Proline offerings for these saws - seals, bearings, master control lever, clutch cover, pistons, etc... all sorts of previously hard to find parts.

I stand corrected on some of the parts availability. Been awhile since I was in the market.
