Hi guys I'm trying to find a replacement coil for my 064, seems like a common problem. The part number of my dead coil is 2 204222 108. What part number will replace it ?. My case has 3 bolt holes but the coil only has 2 holes, is this right or could my coil have already been replaced by the last owner ?. Thanks

That is the hard to get 064 coil (stihl p# 11224001300)
Google the p#,you can get new ones from DLA in Greece.
Originals have high failure rate.
JJ is the expert on these.

Should I go for a aftermarket/Chinese coil ?, I would rather stick with original (if it would last). I contacted the guy i got the saw off and he said that he had already put 2 Chinese coils in it before going back to original. Can I get a different flywheel and coil combination ? Thanks

Not sure on DLA ones but the other Greek stuff seems OK.
See my notes above for fw/coil combos.
Or Google 064/066 ignitions this also gives combos.
Search "064 coil boss" on this site to also show a mod I done.
You can also run the f/wheel with no key to get timing right.The key only locates the wheel not lock it.This is done by the taper and nut.

Thanks again for the help. I'll take it to the shop tomorrow and get the flywheel removed to get the numbers off it just to be sure of what I have. Why would it keep killing coils ?, turns out that this is the 3rd coil in about 3 hrs of run time !. They all still have spark but only weak (will not start).
Chi coils??.
Make sure f/wheel magnet are clean.
Make sure f/wheel magnets are strong(they can loose their magnetism)
Gap coil to wheel with a business card.
BTW have you tried another plug?

Everything is spotless and magnets are strong. Yeh thats the first thing i tryed (new plug), i got the old coils today (out of this saw) and tryed them. All have weak spark, even tried a small spray off aerostart (I don't like using it) and got nothing not even a back fire. There are aftermarket 1203 flywheels and coils to suit on ebay so I'm thinking of trying that. At least if I need another coil later it will be easy to get.

If you fit wheel and coil and try to start it and it tries to rip the rope out of your hand it is too advanced in the timing.

The saw is in the shop (local stihl dealer) so I can get the flywheel removed and get the numbers, so I may not have them till tomorrow I'm hoping. The guy at the shop looked it up on the shop computer and said that the 064 only ever came out with 2 different types of coil !, and of course he just happened to have them in stock !, sounds like he's trying to move old stock to me. $180 each.

Depending on the flywheel number, I'm thinking of putting one of these coils on the saw to get it running and debating weather or not to sell the saw off before it dies AGAIN.
OK.No timing problems if swapping like for like coil.
I wouldn't pay $180 for OEM coil,this type is very failure prone.

Would be interested in saw if you was selling if the price was right and P/C is good.Where are you located?

Hi mate yeh I got your message. Nothing personal but I don't like to put my address or phone number out on the Internet. I haven't got the saw back from the shop yet so no new news. If I decide to sell the saw i will contact you first. Thanks
