Don't think the red light was limiting, just a method to indicate a certain RPM which reportedly decreases over time to the point you no longer use it.
Hi David Major, Pioneer and Zero Junk etc.
I know how you guys have hit on the few known differences of the 064 vs 066, and I thank you for stating the big tell tale of the Oil Pumps.
This brings me to ask if there are other small or larger differences in these 2 saws and more specifically even newer ones like my MS660.
Obviously over the years/ decades, Stihl, Husq, etc evolve and either get small changes throughout the lifespan of each model, until eventually a new model comes out. I am thinking of stuff like the addition of antivibe features, improvements to AV design, Ignition, carb, EPA, Elastostart, etc.
Having said that, I guess I will begin with my MS660. I picked this saw up off a young Hispanic tree guy maybe 8 years ago. He told me he was like most young fellas and had to have all the bells and whistles. If I remember right, he said he was upgrading to a 661. I don't regularly get large wood to buck or fell, but I bought this saw for when I do, or if I need to put a long bar and ripping chain on it for milling.
Since we are talking about the 064/066, I would like to know the main differences between the 066 and my 660. I was a new " 0" saw owner 30 years ago, so I have a fondness for them. I bought an 026 ( Black lever) brand new from a dealer back in 1994 when I bought my first house. I added a 2nd 026 (red lever), about 7- 10 years ago. Around the same time, I bought an 044 off of David Major. Shortly afterwards, I was hunting for an 066, but found my 660 for sale locally instead.
That's about it for now, and thanks for letting me hijack your thread a bit, David Major.
Thanks Mad Prof.Slightly upgraded and EPA choked down 066. Check out the IPLs for differences.
On a side note, How would you describe any differences for better or worse between a 660 and a Husq 394XP? I now have a 394 but have yet to put it to wood. Thanks Mad Prof.
