Right now I am bidding on an 066 on ebay. There is about a day left and the bid is at $250. The description says it has low compression but everything else is good. What should a saw like this be worth? I know things on ebay are usually inflated so im lookin for some opinions or other options on where to get a big saw that needs some work for cheap. Thanks

Hmmm....Low compression...That might mean that the piston is welded to the cylinder and is no longer attatched.

Dunno what to say. I see non-running, incomplete parts saws sell for nearly four hundred dollars on ebay. Makes no sense to me. Heck.... i can buy a running saw for that if i look around a little. Far as i can tell..... people are insane. :deadhorse:

If the main bearings are shot, and the crank is loose, and you need a new piston and cylinder... You get the picture... be careful... It might be worth $300, or it might be worth $25...

$25 is shipping on a 66......

I dont get it either. dam junk worn out west coast logger saws needing more than total rebuild (or they'd throw a top end on it) going for 1/2 the price of new. oh well.

You should have seen the west coast piece of junk 066 I worked on today...

- bad mains
- broken handle tied together with hose clips
- Air filter? HA!
- 064 tank.. hmmm
- Clutch drum completely shot
- safety interlock taped down for "easier starting"
- throttle interlock broken.
- ORIGINAL fuel filter.
- several type and thread sizes (non metric") rammed in.
- muffler - only the outer bottom bolts - NO bolts into the cylinder
- a newish EPA carb???? but stiff and deal diaphragm.
- broken 660 recoil cover
- all sorts of bastard parts grafted on.
- case cracks, plastic faded and broken...

but.. the "red lite" worked!!

"idles too fast" - just fix it it. $100 max.. LOLOL

Carb kit.. made it way rich to overcome the bearing seal leaks, clutch drum... good enough for this guy. Bet he wants the drum taken off the bill.

Oh, it will likely end up on ebay as "just serviced", great runner.

He says low compression but everything else is good. You have to ask yourself just how does the seller know that. Even with low compression does the seller state this saw still runs, if not run away!!!!!!

Yea i agree that these saws could be needing alot more money than i am ready to put in but at this point in time i would like a bigger saw. But i cant afford to buy a new or used running saw. So i am looking for a project saw because i enjoy fixing these things up. Are there any better sources besides ebay? Anyways heres the link. Let me know what you think. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...MEWA:IT&viewitem=&item=230125989538&rd=1&rd=1

Dude walk away. Walk directly to your closest dealer/s and bs with 'em and ask to look at the potential pile.

I got a 066 mag (cylinder locked) with a good tank handle and case complete with side cover and 20" bar for $50. The tank handle alone will sell for that.

When dealing with used saws you better have damn good pics from someone you trust or better yet, have it in your hands and look it over your self. Ebay is ridiculous.

Yup at this point you guys are right. This weekend im going to my dealer to see what he has. Thanks again.

Probably a good call. Not that there isn't decent saws on Flea bay, just too much could be wrong with them. I bought an 064 that ran but was week a few months ago. Well it did run despite needing bearings, seals, clutch cover, oiler and clutch springs. Also the piston and cylinder were shot. Just my friggin luck, but I've replaced or swapped all the components and now have it running but I have more to do to it yet.

Yea i agree. I got my 026 from ebay and the only thing that was wrong with it was the impulse line was broke. That was a really good deal so i figured maybe i could find another. But that saw ended up going for $340 which is ridiculous. Thanks for talking me out of that one.

By the pictures it looked like an even "fair"?
$338,79(?) good deal?

I bought one that was said to be a runner , Broken motor-mount (tank housing) striped out bar stud (replaced with a 1 1/2" X 3/8 NC , automotive stud , cross threaded into the case) Chain Brake was too small/didn't fit (off of a smaller saw, 440?) Broken Piston rings, (would not take a carb setting, very low compression, needed piston and rings) Oil pump dumped as much oil on the clutch as it did The chain) Missing bumper-spikes and various hardware , Clutch cover wore out and cracked.
And not one chunk of plastic that did not have cracks.

Moral of the story, new MS-660's seem expensive, but not when you think about it? If your doing enough big wood, and can justify a 066/660, you would not have to sharpen the pencil much more to buy the new one. Or from someone you can trust!

way reee-****-you (over) lous..... :(

i bought the box full o' o11's he had listed - arrived today and i got just what I wanted: I should be able to get 2 (maybe 3) working saws out of it. 3 carbs so my main 011 will get a new carb. another bar and chain. only thing I really need is some good AV mounts but I'm almost scared to price them... :) There are tons of auto AV bushings that will work though...

I bought a 260 on the bay for $200 and it's been great. Waited a couple months until I got one that looked good for a good price.

Patience... the neat thing about ebay is there will (almost) ALWAYS be another X coming up for sale in the future...
