Why would a stihl 066 not have a pressure relief valve? Does it mean it is a older saw? Does it really matter?

It looks like it does not have an elastostart grip. Is the compression release under what looks like a rubber plug on the top cover? How old could it be?

I believe some 066 saws were sold without a compression release valve. The cyllinder is the same - just a plug in place of the compression release valve. The cover would also be the same only with a rubber cover over the hole.

I would also think that you can retrofit the saw with a compression release valve. Simply remove the plug and put in the release valve.

The elastistart cord is something that also can be added.

Parts at your dealer.

Notice the lack of any safety stickers! All my stihl's have several plastered on them. I'm thinkin that they were smuggled into Florida from a third world country used to log hemp! :D

I have two 066's. One with decomp valve/ one without. Both start easy enough. I got the one without from Jacob J. I'm sure he knows the answer, but it was new old stock when I got it last year.

that makes me wonder cause we can't order them without.

only guess i got is a plug off a 260 non pro model put in the plastic houseing.

the old 066's didnt have them. ive put plugs where all mine go.

I bought one of these saws your talking about from that seller listed on Ebay. It is a Brazilian made saw. I will have it next week.

I have heard of some great prices but that one beats them all. If there is a dealer in NC selling new 066's for $650 let me know. Like I said I have heard all prices. I once had a guy swear tom em that the local dealer was charging $1400 for a 045 or 048. What he meant was a 046 and it was actually $750.
