Looking for a bit of advice .....

So I am in the process of swapping out my crank case on my 075 to a new one except seem to have run into a few snags.

1. Does anyone have any tricks on getting the case split? I have all the bolts out and everything ready to come apart but it won't give. I am assuming that the crank bearings are on tight and holding the two halves together via the crank. I hate to use too much force.

2. I just noticed that the new case does not have the manual oiler, Damit. Any ideas if a hole could be tapped into the top of the new case to accommodate the oiler (ugh I hate to do it) .... or can this option just be deleted? Not too sure if the two oilers are compatible.

I hate to have come this far just to throw it back together the way it was with the old case ..... unfortunately when I did the rings I noticed that where the 2 case halves meet under the piston, the material the case is made of has been deteriorating and flaking off into the case/cylinder and that is why I thought I would replace it.

Any info would be appreciated.

Thanks!!

If you have a crankcase without the manual oiler it's got to be a 051 crankcase, you shouldn't have a problem using that crankcase. You can try putting a little heat on the bearings to help loosen them but they can be a sob to pull apart without a splitter. It also helps to drive out the dowel pins that are in the crankcase.

Howdy, yes the project is done and saw runs and looks brand new ..... With the exception of the manual oiler. Bit tough getting the case apart but I finally got it. From what I remember some other smaller cc. O51 cases will work and did for me. Just need to ensure the case has proper clearance for the con. Rod off the crank. Seems as though there were some different configurations as far as clearance .... I did not have to modify/grind the case at all. I think some of the required serial numbers are listed on here for doing the swap. I think I had to re-tap the cylinder stud holes for the larger size studs but no biggie. The auto oiler seems to work fine with the 36 inch bar so far. Wasn't easy finding a suitable crank case for the 075 as I wanted something new, but like I mentioned it works fantastic and went together quite easily. I think possible Stihl had some casting issues or the fellow I bought it off did something to it ..... Looked like the piston was slapping the case and the case fragments were getting sucked up into the cylinder causing some scaring on the walls. Oh yeah, I also relocated the ignition module from under the f.w. to up under the air intake. Got away from the stock doughnut looking ignition to a better, smaller set up easy to re-locate.

I have a 075 project that I would like to start soon and was wondering, if you could tell me what kind of ignition you used?

Thank you
Ben

I called the "Chainsaw Guy" down in WA or OR (can't remember) and he recommended an aftermarket ignition that mounts under the top cover. Its pretty small and easy to mount .... I can't remember the model number but give him a shout and he is really good at helping out. Think it was like $15.00 or something. I have his business card around somewhere but you can just google him. I think his e-mail is sawking at something (?).com My 075's are out in the barn and I don't have a whole lot of time to check model numbers for the coil but if I get a chance over the weekend I will post the info. I may have a spare one in my tool box somewhere also if you aren't having any luck.

Sorry it took me so long to reply but I have been really busy.
