Hello, great site here.

I'm working on a saw I gave my father four years ago. I put a new piston & cylinder on it and rebuilt the whole thing before letting him play with it. Somehow the air filter didn't get reinstalled and he ran it for a while without the filter. The reason it quit was a bad ignition trigger. I brought it home, was checking grounds & trying to figure out why it didn't have spark. As I spun the flywheel, the bearings were rough. Dad admitted he'd run it without the filter and that was probably why the crankcase had wood buildup in there.

I have the cases back together now, new bearings, new o-rings in the oiler worm drive. Problem is, the dealer sold me a universal electronic ignition kit (1114 007 1012) no instructions. Besides four loose wires in the bag, there's a recognisable electronic modual in there as well. Lots of screws, tabs, plasitc bits, grommets etc. Would anyone have some kind of advice on how this should hook up? I'm on a time-line as Dad has jobs lined up & needs this saw ASAP.

Thank you in advance.

Ryan

PS, any way to install a K&N air filter on this saw?

I was just looking at a parts list for my 075 and noticed that it's supposed to have a trigger under the flywheel. Mine has no such thing. I know now that I've been looking at what is probably a brown Atom ignition module. Somebody drilled mounting holes at the base of the upper AV mount and the module was hooked up to parallel to the kill wire. The coil is original. Got no problems with the setup--probably better than factory and a lot easier to work on. I don't know what comes with that ignition kit, so it's hard to tell you how to hook it up.

No sure that a K&N filter would benefit. Saw is going to be slow no matter what you do. Won't stop for a train, though.

I sure hoped you changed all three crank seals.

Thanks for the replies Stihltech and cbfarmall.

Yes there was a trigger under the flywheel, this univeral kit goes outside I expect.

Because the bearings alowed the crank to move around, the seal lips were worn, yep had to replace them. The third seal is inside the clutch drive / worm gear sleeve. I wasn't particularly looking to hot-rod the saw, just something to a better job of keeping dirt out of the intake. I was thinking of welding in a peice of aluminum tube & run it up through a hole in the cover but it's too much trouble. Can't seal the flat air cleaner element....some dirt will always get in no matter what on this factory setup.

I have the cases back together tonight, cylinder is back on. What oil mix is recommended? Dad's been running Stihl oil mixed per their recommendations. Is that rich enough?

This is the univeral kit.

Here's the saw. That first picture has the stock ignition trigger in it just to show what was there. Now from what I gather, I need to pull the wires out & attatch them to this new modual. The coil wires go on the modual, I'm lost from that point.....

That's exactly what my saw has. Bulletproof setup.

Pull the old wires going under the flywheel. You won't need all the new wires, just the one that is the proper length. The short lead from the coil grounds to a coil mounting screw--just as you have it the picture. The other existing lead goes to the ignition module which you mount to the saw frame. As I mentioned before, the upper AV mount is a good location. You may or may not need the extra brackets. The coil lead and the new switch lead share the same terminal on the module. That's it. If I had a digital camera, I'd take a picture of my setup.

That's a purty 075. Was your jug OK?

Good luck, Chris B.

Thank Chris,
Yes the piston & cylinder were in great shape. I'd replaced them last time I rebuilt this saw. Bought on ebay new for $100.00, great deal.

This ignition trigger, it may be as simple as this but I'm not good with electrickery. Please correct me if this pic has anything wrong. The wire goes to the kill switch from the trigger and that's it? It's all the extra brackets, plastic bits, screws & wires that came with it that has me confused......

You got it.

It's a universal kit, so you're going to have left over parts that would fit other saws. You shouldn't have to use any brackets to mount the trigger. Bolt it up, check the spark, and hang on.

Together Again, naturally....

Cleaned him all up. Installed the new ignition trigger, clutch weights, crank bearings & seals. A few O-rings here, gasket there... All just to set out in the yard and take pictures of for you guys. Isn't that special....

What does it take to post moving pictures on here? This camera does movies but haven't used the function. Is it similar to posting pictures or must I upload the movie and link too it?

Other side. Sorry about the missing exhaust cover. This muffler is off an 066 I think? Cover doesn't fit now.....

Very nice. That muffler looks rather big (and Stihl made at least two different ones.) but it certainly didn't come off an 066. The jug exhausts straight into the muffler on an 066. The 075 makes a 90 degree turn before entering the muffler. I think most 075's vibrate the muffler cover loose and break all the mounting flanges. There are at least three styles--a half cover and two full covers. I like mine the best.

Did you get spark? Those spikes seem smaller than the ones I got.

Hello Chris,
Wish you could post a picture of what your's looks like. I haven't had another 075 to compair against. It's possible those spikes are off another saw, I actually made these but coppied off the existing spikes. I have a few extra side covers and know what you mean by different styles, none work with this muffler. Unfortunately no local Stihl dealers I've been too knows this saw. Mostly ask what I'm going to do with it. As if it can't cut wood.

I'm certain it runs, had spark at the plug. I took these pics & then ran it out to Dads.
