The old logo recoil housing uses friction shoes for starting. The new logo recoil housing uses pawls. The 2 systems are not interchangeable without changing flywheels. You can buy a replacement friction shoe assembly and a replacemnt starter "cup" (more like a ring) from your dealer. (The washers & springs are very important so be sure that they are all there.) The pawl system is a better system and more reliable than the friction shoes but you loose the original classic look. You can not swap out the guts of the recoil housings either, according to my dealer. :chainsaw:

Should I go with the cast aluminum syle muffler or the big black tin one?

The cast aluminum muffler was used on the S-10 (top handle versions which were manufactured from 1968 through 1973.) The 08S saws had the sheet metal muffler.

The 08 SEQ is manufactured in Brazil today. Wonder what they sell for?

Brad, I was curious if there was a noticeable difference in the sound output between the sheet metal and cast aluminum mufflers, taking in consideration that there were several different sized p & c versions over the years?

I like the looks of the cast version better, but I think that I will be able to get a sheet metal version cheaper.

I don't recal from when I rebuilt them. They're now all shelf queens setting on the shelf over my desk drained and run dry.
