I am in sales at a Stihl/Husky/Echo dealership. The distributors cannot tell us how much we can or cannot sell for but they set our purchase price and the margins are not great on saws.
We need to sell near MSRP to make a REASONABLE profit unless we get promo pricing.
We also need to be competitive. I stock few saws over 60 cc because another dealer blows them out at cost plus ten percent and I simply cannot compete with that. If he chooses to do so that is his business.

my wife got me a 440 with 20" bar for fathers day present, found out she paid 689$...the dealer gave her the case and hardhat/muff/shield combo at 40% off and threw in a free pair of gloves.

I guess my problem is I don't have the patience to get those kind of deals.

I just priced the 290 FB and my dealers price W/$269.99 - $60 cheaper than the list, also a MS 270 was $369 Both saws w/18" bars. Then I went to my
Husky dealer and bought a 353 for $279.95 Total W/18" bar,oil and 6pak mix.

It seems most Stihl dealers are more willing to add goodies to the deal, but do not seem to have the leeway on the MSRP aspect...

dealers can sell for what ever they want to. if i sell a saw for msrp but joe b. under cuts me 10 or 15% thats no different than mister truck and a chainsaw tree guy bidding a $1000 job for $500. at the end of the day whatever saw you buy if a dealer takes care of you when you need him most you'll save money in no, or less lost down time.

Very good desision, I think!

The MS270 (and 280) has been overpriced, considering that they are not pro saws in spite of the white rear handle. Over here the 270 has already been withdrawn from the market.......

Has anyone bought a new saw recently and had them move on the price??

Yes, I got a little off my MS170 I bought a couple months ago. I got close to $100 off my 036's when I got them. The one local dealer told me that Stihl won't let them sell the saws for anything but the MSRP. I've never gone back there.
