As the picture shows, it appears the teeth of my chain are coming into contact with the plastic body behind the clutch. Initially, thought my clutch was going bad.
Any help trouble shooting before I have to take it to a shop would be appreciated.

That clutch drum rides on a needle bearing. From the photo your clutch drum may be tilted. Only thing that would allow this is bad needle bearing. Other than that, something has to be out of place. The sprocket, bar, and chain all have to match.

I have seen MS500I's ran with a bad drum bearing until they ruined a $1400 saw.

Thanks for everyone’s time responding. Helped me to realize plastic damage wasn’t part of the problem. Wish could say never thrown a chain, which is just as embarrassing as a misfire.

Don't let the chain hang off the bar, it should be ever so lightly tight.
