Have a Stihl 290 with about 10 hours use. On full choke saw will start ok but stops almost instantly. Restarting off full choke, it will start and run for about 2 seconds. Revs to full speed and dies. If I go back to full choke, I can repeat this cycle.
If I carefull set the choke just cracked open a wee bit the saw will run (race) but as soon as you touch the control it quits. Saw will restart ok but will only repeat the described situation!
I have:
1.Replaced the full filter with new. No change.
2.Carefully cleaned the airfilter. No change.
3.Checked the muffler screen. Looks like new.

I'm stumped! Any help much appreciated.

take that saw back to the dealer. they are a dependable saw and run much better than you describe.

Fuel supply problem. Take it back to the dealer if it's still under warranty. If it's not, sell it to me. I like my 290.

It's most likely an impulse or fuel line issue, but can also be carb. I had an MS290 carb last week that would not rebuild, no matter what I did... First non-fixable HD carb ever past my bench. I suspect the L check vave was stuck, and that cannot be replaced.
