Hi I'm new at this but I would like to know what is the best saw all around, power, vibrations, price, how long each will last, ease of maintenance, etc.
I also use a 200 T and love it except would like more torque on the bottom end IE, (set it on the branch idling, pull the trigger and have it cut.) Any help would be great. thanks

Well the readers of this reply are going to get tired of me singing the praises of my 361, dang it, it's a good saw. I still don't have the thing broken in yet-I've been down with a head cold, and hopped up on cold medicine, which is why I've been on AS all day long-but it's got torque to spare, and has a really nice top end. I love the saw. The new anti-vibe system on it works really, really well too. I also just put a full wrap handle bar on it, and the saw has a whole new personality. I don't know, it just does. I payed $540, which was apparently last year's price, because my dealer now sells it for $580, or there abouts. How do these saws match up power-wise? I thought the 372 had a bit more hp than the 361. I'm not familiar with Husky specs, but the 361 has 4.4 hp and is 12 lbs. It handles well, especially with the full wrap I just mentioned. I think you'll do fine with either saw, but I do love my 361. Like I always say, nothing against Husky, they're great saws, I'm just a Stihl guy.

And welcome to the board. Where are you in Washington? Are you out here on the West Side with me?

Take care all,
Jeff

There's no question the Husky will have a bigger pair of balls, but they weigh about a pound each extra.  All the other stuff, except maybe price (since you can mail-order the Husky), is pretty much subjective.

Have my own 372, used lots of them at work. Nice saw, like glens said about a pound more and more jam. The spec I have says 5.4hp. Youll be happier if you get a wrap handle and the big bucking spikes (dogs). Stihl do make some real good saws, but I have had better luck with Huskys.

not really a fair pair to judge, the 372 would be alot faster and if any of your trees are big it would be the saw to buy

You are comparing apples to oranges, these are 2 different categories of saws all together:

372 XP = 14.75 lbs – 71cc/4.3 c.i – 5.4 hp

MS361 = 12.3 lbs – 59cc/3.6 c.i – 4.4 hp

Obviously the saw with more power will handle large tress better.

Thanks Lobo, this was my original thought too. I thought the 372 was more inline with a 440 Mag, though the 440 weighs less, but wasn't sure, and didn't want to make a statement only to have it contradicted by someone who knows more than I.

Take care all,

I hate to see you miss out on the most powerful saw in the class the Dolmar PS7300. It is 73cc 13.6 lbs and 5.7bhp.

Yes, but it also costs more. Funny how we start out on an MS361 and end up at a Dolmar PS7900 ;) Actually, the MS361 would be an excellent all purpose saw. I myself would chose a 60cc class saw for one saw. There is a really nice looking Husqvarna 262XP on ebay right now. That would be a good candidate as well. I would focus on Husqvarna 357XP, 359, 261, Stihl MS360 or MS361, or even EFCO 962 or Deere CS-62. Those would all be good saws for that purpose.

The Dolmar 7X00 saws might weight 13.6 lb, but not anywhere I've ever had one by a scale.  In my experience they weigh almost precisely the same as both the 372XP and MS460, at 14.4 lb, no bar/chain.

sorry I didn't look close enough at the specs. I have a 440 066 and 029 super and I was going to get a better mid saw in staid of the 029. also have 180 and its a awsome saw for how small it is

The 361 and the 372 are both great saws. The 361 has only been out about a year or so but has won over a large following. The size difference makes these saws hard to compare.

your right I didn't look at the specs close enough. so how does it compare to a 440?
