Has anyone had to choose between the 440 and 460? what saw did you go with and where you happy. I,m having trouble making the decision:sucks: . I,m still smoking inside that I have to even consider making the homelite share a spot in the barn with a new saw.:chainsawguy:

Well, back when I bought my first modern pro saw, I had to make that decision, and I chose the 460. I love that saw. It may seem redundant in my lineup now, but I won't get rid of either it or my 44 any time soon. I tell ya though, I'd say that a new (or nearly) 440 with a 460 top end would be pretty much perfect. Mine's a little frakensaw'ed together, but that just makes people underestimate it. Ok, modded saw tangent aside, the 44 is my favorite saw of all time, it's light and barely less powerful than the 460. It is a hard decision, but if you're really going to be cutting larger diameter stuff all the time, take the 460. If not, save the extra weight and get a 440. You're still getting a great saw. And if it isn't doing all you want it to, send it off to be ported.

I now have both saws and as tek9tim said, thats how I feel about it.
If not cutting big stuff all the time get the 440 and buy the factory duel
port muffler cover. IMO if I need a bigger saw than the 440, then it would
be a 660

Side note, Stihl is going to stop making the 440 this year.
That did'nt stop me though, bought mine June 1 2007, glad I did :D

P.S. Welcome to AS

440 if you can find one..I have both, but choose the 440 simply because it's lighter....If I need more power,I pull out a bigger saw..But the 440 is my favorite saw of all time. They don't use much gas,and they seemingly run forever.

Yes I did, they gave me a price of $620.00
Is it fair, or should I consider something else. The problem is that I also need to replace a Redmax blower that someone so kindly removed from my garage:jawdrop: :chainsaw: .

Yes, keep it in the bedroom, like Thall does with his 660, or was it an 880?........ :greenchainsaw:

....or at least inside the house.

I live in south west michigan. I now have German Shepard ( MAGNUM ) I filed his teeth with my chainsaw blade sharpener and I only feed him once a month. I raised my liability insurance to 5 million. I,m scared of him. The guns are loaded and so is my temper, I limbed a tree and it is just the right height for a good old fashion rope straightening.
