Hi Everyone,

I have this fetish and it is collecting old Stihl Chainsaws. It's only a relativity new fetish but the "STIHL" bug has bitten me hard. I just cannot get enough of reading about, looking at or working on old Stihl Chainsaws.

My very first question to this very impressive forum is " does anyone know somewhere that I can find information on every Stihl Chainsaw model very produced, years of production and the specs on them" ?
I have a nice 08S that I am working on presently and when I have looked around either online or on U tube, I can see 2 or 3 different types of 08S Chainsaws. It would be good to know what years, what came out and what was the differences on all the Stihls.

Can anyone help or put me in the right direction.

What about the variances ? I see the 08S is from 1965-1994. So what are or where can I find the differences ?

I might get some photo's of my 08S and it's serial number and see what I can find out.

But I managed to ******** my way through school anyway!!!

The mediacat shows serial number breaks for some different parts, with the date of the bulletin, which may be helpful. But many of those have long ago been deleted. Finding an old paper ipl on e-bay would be what you want.

You remember the funniest things, but you are correct - a good final copy was always a challenge in itself. Especially if it had to be in ink and there were marks for neatness lol.

I saw another 08S with a slighty different top cover to what mine has..

Saw another with "Stihl 08S embossed" instead of a badge.

Just would like to know between 1965-1994 obviously excluding the chain break what were the difference. I will post some images tomorrow of mine.
