Hi,
I bought my first ever Stihl product today. A Stihl helmet, the one with the face screen and ear muffs. I got home and tried it out, but after about 5 swivels of the ear muffs, the one side locked up. So the one ear muff is always in the down position. This is not normal is it? That side was stiffer/harder to move from the store? Any ideas, I will most likely take it back and see if I can get a new one. Thanks
Ryan

I would take it back .. Go to Lowes and get the husky hat much better hard hat....

Same thing happened to mine.
Can't remember what I did to fix it, but check the plastic boss's that attach to the helmet. I noticed that it was out of alignment. Causing it to jam.
Fish is correct. If your looking for a good commercial helmet.
The Stihl helmets are alittle weak IMO

That is not normal

I have a Stihl Hardhat system and i have never had any trouble with it at all. I wear it all the time, on the ground or in the tree. Sounds like a defect. I will say that Stihl has changed a lot of their equipment a couple years back and it is not all for the better. I will always swear by their saws, but not by all of their equipment.

Back in the day

Many moons ago the Stihl helmets were made by Peltor. I have one of these and it has been totally reliable. When I replace it I will purchase another Peltor.

I like that peltor too. The screen looks smaller (good for me), and it looks like a more solid unit than my stihl.

I alway had trouble with both the Stihl and the Peltor.....Either the shields would brake or the ear muffs...I went with husky they are good to go had mine for over2 years nowand never had to replace nothing....I would go husky and do like I did lol Take the husky sticker off the front lol,,,Sorry husky guys ..

Here in Sweden the Stihl helmets are still Peltors ,,,
Though I got a Husky helmet I do prefer the Peltor helmet and will get one as soon as I wear/destroy the one I got out ,,,

I would be amazed if the Husky and Stihl helmets were'nt made by Peltor. But then again I may be just talking out of the backside of my reality.:hmm3grin2orange:

I had the same thing happen with my forestry helmet. Turns out I did not have the mounting tab fully inserted into the slot on the helmet. There is a small open slit at the top of the tab that when fully inserted a small raised poriton of the helmet will pop in and reatain the mount tab. Clear as mud eh?

Ive got the Stihl helmet.
No problems with it yet.
I have no idea what you guys are talkin about. :monkey:

I have a Stihl helmet as well...I've only only had it about a month and half, used exclusively in firewood cutting and storm clean-up. I've had no problems as of yet. I looked closely at the Husky helmet the other day and wasn't able to discern any significant difference in quality between the two. The Husky did seem to have a lot more snap-on parts to it, which I didn't like. The Stihl also had a better adjusting strap. However, judging by the majority of posts here...It sounds like the Peltor may be the way to go. I'll have to check them out.

Peltor is always a good choice when looking for helmet... mine is 3 years old and still running strong...

Same problem with mine. My dealer only carries one of these at a time and it's the display model. They didn't mount the earmuff correctly when they assembled it. Finish popping it in and all is well.

Well I'm glad someone understood what I was trying to say. It's a lot easier to say than type!
