Have a stihl ht101 pole saw. It's running like a brake is on it. Took the head and gear box off it turns freely. Try to twist the shaft from the saw end and it doesn't move at all.
Would this be the clutch?
If so what issues am I going to have in switching it out?
Thanks

Sounds like a bent shaft. You say you took the power head off and the motor and it still binds right?

If it's bogging the motor down it likely isn't the clutch.

It's acting exactly like a regular chainsaw does when the brake is engaged. Motor seems fine. Took the head off and can spin the gears and saw easy. Tried to turn the shaft with the head off and it's acting like it's locked.

Took it off from the motor side as well... I can't turn the shaft from either side...
Is there a diagram anywhere that shows replacing the shaft if that is what the issue is?

Yes ,I will see if I can find it. They are confusing and you need to take it apart carefully ,mark everything and take pictures.

Your shaft bearings are frozen up. There are 3 of them internally. Disassemble carefully. Easy fix.
