Thats right, I finally made a descision and bought a saw to fit/meet my current and future needs.

I really wanted a very powerful saw AND be lightweight at the same time. Due to the smaller size of the trees around here, I didnt need the super-powers of the ms361, but I did want the saw to have plenty of bark to it for those occasional medium sized tree's.

Due to the weight I was willing to carry, I had set my sights on a "medium" powered 50cc saw that had plenty of power, torque, and insane rpm's. That quickly narrowed the field down to two saws; The Dolmar ps5100s, and the Husqvarna 346xp.

These two saws are very similar in many respects including weight, power, rpm's, and even price. Dolmar had some things that were a little better, and Husky did too.

What I really wanted to do is wait for the possible new Husky 346xp with the reported 50cc engine. This may or may not happen in the U.S, I don't know, but my assumption is that even if this improved 346xp does come to fruition, that it may not exceed the 5100's abilitites, but only match them.

I have used a few German-built motors and appliances before and have always been in awe of their attention to detail and quality. They truly make very high precision quality products. I have never been disappointed with them.

As a result of the overwhelming positive feedback of the 5100 on this forum, I decided to go with the Dolmar and give it a try.

Had the new Husky 346xp actually been out now it may have been a different story, but it's not and I really don't see how I could go wrong with the Dolmar based on all the reviews here.

I will be receiving it next week along with the plastic case and LGX chain/Oregon bar. I'll post a pic when I get it.

Who else owns/runs a Dolmar?, what has your experience been with them?.

Good deal! I hope you're happy with it.

The question lurks in my mind as to what you're going to do with a chainsaw in Arizona. LOL :givebeer:

I'm in Northern Arizona, the largest stand of Ponderosa pines in the world! (I know, whoo-da guessed!.)

Anyway, we have lots of pines but also a smaller type of Oak tree called Gamble Oak as well as Juniper and Pinon Pines.

My new saw will be used primarily for firewood cutting, but also to fell an occasional tree on the property.

A few years ago, I cleared around 50 trees, some around 36'' wide with my little Stihl 021. I was actually amazed at what that tiny saw can do. I hope I see even more power with this new Dolmar as it is double the hp!. I can't wait to try it out.

Sounds like flagstaff there is gold in them there hills

Good choice - here in northern NM I cut similar wood as you and I love my 5100. Now get a 401 for limbing and you'll be all set :)

Glad to see you made the decision and picked a saw. Let us know what you think of it when it arrives.

This is how it starts though. First the 5100, then a 7900, then a 401. At that point you'll say OK, now I need a new Stihl cuz my 021 is a little poochy.

Then you'll have a new 441 then a 660.....it will go on from there. Stop now, go back....repent and leave those noisey nasty oil-dripping chainsaws alone!

Good luck on your new toy.
