I purchased a new MS 440 from my local dealer probably my 10th new Stihl over the last 2 years, Since I've had it I have not been able to get it to idle I took it back to the dealer and after about a week they called and said it was ready to pickup so I went in for it and should have run it right there but did not I took it home and tried to start it to see if things were going to be OK but this time the saw coughed out a lot of fuel mix from the compression release port and the muffler and was real hard to pull over like the cylinder was full of fuel so back to the dealer it went and there is were it has been since. When do you say you have had enough should I insist on a new saw or just ask for my money back and try a different model? The MS 460 I have works great but I thought I would get a little lighter model. Seems like I made a mistake. I just ordered a new Husky 362XP from Amicks I hope I have better luck with that saw. I wanted to run that MS 440 until it was broke in then send it to Dean out at WHS to get a stage 3 mod on it, but I'm not sure what to do about it at this point.

I would demand a new one...Stihl has a satisfaction policy, and if the saw isn't that old at all, make your dealer take that saw back and give you a new one...I have had a few lemons come through over the years and I dn't hesitate to send it back and get another...That way THEY have to worry about getting it right and it doesn't keep taking time away from you.:deadhorse:

Thanks Eric, Your New 362XP is shipping out to you on Monday along with the parts you need. We appreciate your business. Tony

P.S. I throw in a few freebie's.:rockn: :rockn:

Hey Tony were you able to get the XPG for me?... By the way the 4 new saws I bought from you over the past few months are all doing great...

I might just do that especially after that thing with the cylinder filling up with fuel that really turned me off towards that saw… I haven’t even made one cut in wood yet…

Insist on a new carb, your's is leaking fuel in the engine by way of a leaking inlet needle. Tant no biggie..

Eric, After speaking with Husqvarna, They are not offering an XPG model of the 362's at Husqvarna USA. It may be down the road. I know you'll enjoy this saw as it seems the larger engine, 3.81 cu.inch, should give it more brute power. Thanks Tony

I'm currently running a MS440 as my "big" saw. I've had it for almost a year, cut alot of wood, and had no problem other than the chain not sitting still while at an idle, but that's just some tinkering. I'm running a 20" bar and it has worked out well for me. I plan to upgrade to a larger bar for cutting large trees up at the cottage. That's unfortunate about yours, because i love mine.

This is not the first saw this size I've had from Stihl just the first one that had problems from day one... I'm sure in the end I'll be happy even if it means getting a different saw. I'm not locked into any brand specific I run Stihls, Huskys, Dolmars, and a few others, I've had good luck with most of them. "Knock on Wood" :greenchainsaw:

No company is perfect. It's good to see you can keep an open mind, and not knocking Stihl - or any company, for making one bad saw. It's not the first, and I'm sure it won't be the last.

Thanks, Lake and Thall.... But what about all that fuel in the engine...?

What about it. Tell the shop you want a new carb and the saw running right while its under warranty. Tell them you know the inlet is leaking and you do not want a kit, you want a new carb. You aren't going to have to do anything after that. Its the shops job to get it cleared out and running correctly. The fuel in the engine doesn't hurt anything other than making it flooded. Its no biggie.

Your Right... Actually after posting that I never got a bad saw from Stihl before this one I do remember buying a 046 awhile back and it's fuel tank leaked from day one... The dealer replaced it for me and the saw was a good runnin saw from then on.

I'd have to disagree, Who knows what else could be wrong. Better safe than sorry, make them hook you up with a new saw

It didn't happen

Or the robot had a hangover?

It's Zama's fault

The dog ate my homework......plotz

Pest could you explain the point of that post of yours. I kinda like to know if your being a smart azz or a dumb azz though I'd lay my money on both.
