stihl ms180 spark screen??

question for the stihl pros out there, is it safe to run a ms 180 without the spark screen in the muffler?? saws seams to run much better without it!

How clogged is your screen? Mine runs just fine with it in place. As long as it is clean it should make no difference in how the saw performs.

I agree^ Your saw don't care, one way or the other, but if you start a fire, you might wish you'd have left it in!

the screen was very plugged but we got it to clean up pretty good...so maybe i will just put it back in

Safe for saw? Yes.
Safe for preventing fires? No, especially if you are in a fire prone area.
Legal? Some places require spark arrestors by law.

I have had great success in cleaning spark arrestors by heating them with a torch. This will consume the carbon adhering to the screen. You don't need a fancy torch, either. A cheap torch style (windproof) cigarette or grill lighter will get the job done. You can get it red hot with one of these lighters.

Most of the wood cutting around here starts in the Fall which is also the driest time. I would clean the screen and run it..

Wait do you all have a screen o your ms 180,I never saw one when I took off the muffler to mod IT.I probably lost IT without noticing.
