Guy I used to work with sent me a text. He has a 2014 ms271 that won’t run and “seem to have a weak spark”. Any ideas. Thanks.

Most likely, he just has some water in his fuel tank, but it won't hurt or cost anything to look at the piston first.

Have him dump out all of his fuel in a glass jar, and look at the bottom of the liquid, see if it is cloudy.

If he expects to see a nice big blue spark with the spark plugs those saws use, he's going to be seriously disappointed. ;)

Those saws may be plastic clamshells but are tough little buggers. The problem is most likely fuel related, meaning the saw was either straight gassed or was stored filled with old fuel.

He’s dumber than I am. Maybe I can score a good buy if he wants rid of it.

I have a 311 that flooded easily until I figured out the starting procedure. I also thought it was a weak spark. I had to turn the saw upside down to drain the fuel and clean or replace the plug before it would start.

Well he text me back after I told him I would pull the muffler and take a look. He said he wasn’t tearing it all apart!! Told you he was dumber than me. Since it ain’t working he would sell it that way for $200!!
