Stihl MS500I

Found this ms500i local to me. Guy is asking $350. What do you guys think? Should I pick it up, if I can get them to take $250 for it?
They also have a MS461 they're asking $350 for. I already have a 461 that needs a top end. But if I can get this one cheap enough, why not?
What do you guys think?

The 500 is likely more of a parts saw. It needs a recoil assembly, half wrap, and probably some other external parts. None of which would cause them to use it as a parts saw. It might need bearings, a piston/cylinder, and fuel pump as well

If it runs and cuts, it’s probably worth $600 the way it sits. If it needs a piston and cylinder plus some of the other stuff, you might be looking at $800 to get it running. Just depends

I'd do $500 for the pair.

The 500 took a huge hit or multiple hits. No way to know if the case is cracked until full teardown.

Sort of like buying a pig in a poke, your not going to know what you have until you open the poke. Can't see somebody stripping parts off of a 500I without a really good reason.

I'd say 50/50 chance the 500 will need a fuel tank. The last time I saw a "cocked" air filter cover on a Stihl it was a bent tank causing it.

FWIW, we have had a 500I top handle on back order for seems like three months.
