STIHL not sure about new gas/oil caps

My strong armed friend popped one of the new caps on a 260 Pro the first time he filled it with oil. When I got mine, I just did like Lake said, I take it slow and easy and have no problems with them now at all. The one advantage I notice on my two 361's is the light seems to shine into the tanks better and Ii've never overfilled one; wheras the older tanks are sorta dark inside and I often have overfilled the oiler tank and that makes all the chips stick to the saw, yukko.

I've never dealt with the old style caps on a Stihl (other brands, yes) but have the new style caps on my MS260.

The new ones are OK...I have accidently overfilled the oil tank and it was a bit of a bugger, but certainly not a deal killer. If I had a choice I would probably chose the new style.

.

Well it's OK now that I know that I am not the only one that has spilled oil down his leg.

I agree, once you figure it, it works well, I have just used so many REGULAR caps in my life.

Heck, all 3 times I've dumped a tank of oil down my leg it's been with the old style, just because I forget to put the cap back on, or don't get it tight enough and it vibrates open. I could go either way on the new caps, neither style is enough better or worse than the other to sway me. Haven't had any problems with the new ones. As to the overfill issue, they have the little holes in the flange to let the fluids get out as you put the cap on. Never had a problem with that, and I almost always don't stop in time and fill my oil to the brim.

I love the Stihl caps and wish my Husky's had them. I have never had any problems with them breaking or dumping oil and my 260 was purchased the first year they came out. It hasnt exactly been sitting on a shelf since that time either.

I too fall into the "I like them" catagory, although I too had the string that holds the oil cap on my MS460 break off, and so it doesn't stay with the saw when I open it. I try and set the cap carefully on my bar or someplace clean so the oil on the underside of it doesn't pick up debris, but clean dirt-free is hard to find in the woods, especially when cutting or milling. I should just take the time to fix it, but its one of those little things you can't do in the woods when using the saw, and then I forget about it back in the shop cleaning them up. Boy life is rough, ain't it??:(

i like the ht 101

the 4mix engine takes getting used to.always sounds like it's gonna stall at idle.it needs the 30 degree gearbox though.we use the ???? out of it though.

I have nothing but old caps and have no issues with them. I always put newspaper under the saw and overfill a smidge. That floats the sawdust away from the fill hole.

That is one of my pet peeves. Why, oh why, can't they put the oil fill hole up on a bit of a 'boss' so you could wipe the crud away easily before pulling the cap? I cussed that the first saw I ran back in 1954 and it is still the same way.
