Wood_Newbie wasn't too drunk in college to get the pronunciation of Stihl correct. German was my first language, and "Shteel" would be close to the way my father and mother would have said it. The "ee" wouldn't have been quite as drawn out as in English, however. Gene Gauss

Gentlemen and Ladies, I think we have the difinitive answer here from mien friend and yours, Mr. ehgauss. My question is you do you pronounce Gauss? Goss our gowse?:help:

Stihl still steals steel at the seashore...

With his steelie little eyes... he stole a glance at the Stihl chainsaw of his dreams. It was there on the steel rack. He still wanted it. He still dreamed of it. He still ever so needed it. So he reached out and touched the gleaming steel bar, then ligtly tested the sharp steel teeth. It had style, that Stihl. Still, he was reluctant to pay the high price for it. Thoughts of stealing it crossed his mind, and as fast as it came to him he banished the though as if he had thouht about stealing money from a church collection plate or something. Shaking off the thought, he steeled himself, stepped up to the stainless steel counter and said, "Pint of ale, please..." :biggrinbounce2:

Yep, they will steal you blind.

Hoosky

When S. Eriksson would say Husqvarna, He would say Hooskwarna- no hint of a "V" sound!

All of the Germans I know (we have quite a few here) pronounced it STILL. STEEL sounds like a marketing gemic to make it sound tougher, and makes you sound like a fool.
On a side note, a girl I know from Sweden pronounced Husqvarna WHOZG-VARNA. So I guess that makes me a fool who likes HUSKA-VARNAS.

And because I am English I feel the need to apologise for throwing this thread off topic.

I say "Still"

Aluminium or aluminum???

Actually we pronounce aluminium as al-um-in-e-um

I still can't understand why you pronounce it aloooooominum

Its becasue Webster left the extra vowel out of amuminium and mispelled it aluminum in his original dictonary. The danm thing has been stuck like that ever since. But note also that the Amurikan English "accent" is more what the Brits sounded like 200 and some odd years ago. UK English has changed, not so much Amurikan English.

Try to say this five times in a row...

Steal an old steel Stihl from the old still. :yoyo:

I say "steel," I suspect the Germans say "shteel," and the word is properly spelled "apologize." :hmm3grin2orange: :hmm3grin2orange: :hmm3grin2orange:

Silly me, but I pronounce it the way the manufacturer advertises it. Funny how so many retards use 'em but can't pronounce 'em.:hmm3grin2orange: :sucks:

:bang: :bang: It was just a simple question.

There are no Simple questions, just simple answers! Not even close to being a expert on the spoken (or written language), probably a good thing as the only things I excelled at were shop classes and drivers training in school. Anyone ever seen how "mackanaw" is spelled? That's the great thing about this country, we have influences from all over the world, and in my quite large opinion, we are all a lot richer in the long run.

Your mileage may vary...

Call it like you see it... the easiest way is to call it what folks in your area call it...but the pronunciation on the commercials is as "steel";)
