You are 'ticked' about a hypothetical clutch failure? :)

Sure looks a lot like Stihl bashing to me!
I think that you didnt read my post correctly. I said I WOULD be ticked if my clutch went out after less than a year's worth of use, not that I AM ticked.
Come on guys, I aint bashing Stihl, I think that they make some fine products, probably some of the finest tools on the market. I was just surprised when the dealer told me that there was only a 90 day warranty on a $1000 saw.
My Husky 455 ran like like new for an entire year and a half, then the oil pump went out on it. I appreciated the fact that it was repaired under warranty, and I was surprised that Stihl wouldnt have at least a year warranty on a pro grade saw.
When you think about it, most major appliances, power tools, etc for the most part has a one year warranty. My log splitter, washer and dryer(which takes a real beating in my house, considering all the sawdust it has to extract from my clothes) TV set, etc all have a one year warranty.
It was just surprising, thats all.
Again, dont take any of this as Stihl bashing, I am still considering the big Stihl over the Husky3120, but the lack of warranty makes me a little nervous, thats all.

Go buy the a new 3120.............:) :)

Id stick with a older 3120.......New ones are mutts over rev-limited

Been seriously considering such a thing, but in all honesty I just liked the 660! It just felt right in my hands, and for some reason that I can not explain the 3120 just felt a little bit ackward. I dunno, maybe I am just not used to the weight of such a big saw, but it kina reminded me of my old McCulough from years ago.

WAIT, WAIT, WAIT! I am not bashing McCulough, but am just referring to MY old Mac. It weighed a ton, had a manual oiler, and if you ever ran it out of gas, you would spend the rest of the day trying to get it started again.

Hmmmmmm......................Wonder if my local UPS or USPS will warranty my Huskys or Jreds .........I'd be pissed if I had bought a saw mail order and had to send it back and pay shipping both ways each time ..........Does my local dealer have to warranty a saw that was bought mail order.???? There are plenty of west coast saws around here..

Huskys warranty is great.........It left me with out a 385 for over 3 months in early 02.........Had to wait for Husky to finally admit they had a problem with the early 385's .............

.
First part isn't eactly addressing the point, but I get the message between the lines.

Second point, I think that this is more a case of the dealer letting you down than Husky. 3 months is horrible.

stihl warranty

It's only 90 days for professionals. It's 1 yr for any non-pro for any saw.

Check out this link... i hope it works! http://www.stihlusa.com/warranty.html
I did not know this till about a week ago, and i wish my dealer would have told me that you can purchase a pro saw for home use and get the 1 year warranty if it is home use. When i bought my MS310 this is one of the biggest issues when i bought it. I was torn between the 361 and the 310 went with the 310 do to the better warranty. I would have preffered the 361 but couldnt justify spending 100 more for 1/4 the warranty.

Looks like Stihl cant make up their mind. I pulled the owners manual and the rest of the stuff that came with my brushcutter, and it says plain as day that it comes with a 90 day warranty.
I hadnt noticed it when I bought, but I would have bought it anyway. No matter what the warranty, I am sure it will outlast anything bought at the big box stores. I had a Poulan before, and it was junk within a year.

A saw with a good warranty is important in case your a homeowner who doesnt work on saws, or a guy who does and encounters a catastrophic repair. 90 days is flimsy for a company like Stihl. Guess you have to go with Echos 5 year warranty  . My little Echo just runs and runs and runs and runs good.

I am a homeowner and my MS361 and MS660 - both professional saws have a 1 year warranty. That is the warranty that was in affect when I bought them.

My owners manual states:

"Use only STIHL two-stroke engine oil or equivalent high-quality two-stroke engine oils that are designed for use only in air cooled two-cycle engines. We recommend STIHL 50:1 two-stroke engine oil since it is specially formulated for use in STIHL engines. Do not use BIA or TCW rated (two-stroke water cooled) mix oils that state they are for used in both water cooled and air cooled engines (e.g. outboard motors, snowmobiles, chainsaws, mopeds, etc.)."

I use Mobil 1 2T synthetic oil and have no doubts that my warranty will be valid if I need it.

The bottom line is that the Stihl Warranty is for 1 year if you are a homeowner - 90 days if you are a commercial/professional user. It has nothing to to with the saw model.

I don't think warranty matters much with any brand, seems to me or it is the way my luck is if I buy something It works fine for ever or it craters as soon as I use it lol. But I could see someone buying a saw in the summer and not using it till fall yep 3 months later. That would suck:cry:
