Has anyone used Stihl's E light bars out there, I am in need of a bar on my 028 and am considering an 18'' .325, 1.3 E Light.
It will be used for limbing the bigger stuff and felling the smaller stuff, I was just wandering if there was a down side to them being lighter, strength wise etc, thanks

Hi Spreaderman, the E lights are laminated aren`t they? Laminated bars aren`t normally as durable as solid bars but the only true test is to try one for yourself. Russ

fiber filled

The website at stihlusa doesn't mention lamination, it says that the bars are welded together and the open area of the bar is filled with '' fiber-reinforced polyamide'' the 38% lighter weight gives better balance and are great for limbing and ideal for arborist etc.

E Light for smaller saws only

I e-mailed stihl about there E light bars and there response was they are for smaller saws only, 14" they will not fit any larger units.........

I first bought an e bar some years ago. My experiance is that they flex alot more than the standard bar which would result in me not cutting straight. I have a heavy hand though.
For example I like to cut a chunk and have it slide off the bar so it lands in a certain area. Sometimes I even flip the chunk to get it to fly over a fence or bush or something.
When I would cut bigger wood using the lighter bar it would sometimes 'walk' and cut crooked. Not so much on smaller wood.
So I really like them for the 020 but not for the bigger saws.
