I have a Stihl trimmer that is about 3 times the price of the box store models and worth the investment. I do a lot of trimming under electric fence and like something that cuts hay at walking speed. Question? If a person starts to bump up the performance, is there any danger of overspeeding and blowing up the trimmerhead etc.. I know just by looking at the exhaust hole I could increase output, but must it be done in such a way as to increase torque without having rpm run away?

I'll take that bet. A person who is good with a line trimmer can mow, edge the plant beds, trim the bushes and blow off the sidewalk with one machine without stopping.

How would you trim around stuff like houses, fences or trees without damaging them using that steel blade? A good trimmer operator can pluck individual blades of grass off a tree trunk without touching the bark.

At the end of a summer im like that with one. A guy I do some work for does the up keep on 2 big shoping centers. He cant weedeat worth a ???? so I end up doing it, i mow ocasionally too.

factory made unit. Ive never ran it.

Last year, I got my wife one of the fs 46’s with easy start. The thing didn’t have the power required, to really spin up the double line head. I use it as a single line last year and last week I removed the spark screen unit, which effectively opened up the hole from about 3/8” to about ½” and got rid of the screen. After adjusting the carb a little, I ran it and it works much better now. It can spin two lines without a problem. I have a 38cc craftsman brush cutter for the bigger stuff.

more power

Now, if we could just find one of these early Stihl bruscutters with the 045 motor on top.
Not joking, they were really produced. Just scared the brush to death!

Ive got one with the 41 motor and the 020 motor, never seen a 045. what a lunker.

I have seen the Stihl trimmers with the 08S powerheads. I thought I had a picture in the 75th anniversary book but I could not find it. The 041 head would be a powerhouse.
