Not that I know anything, but bidding stumps by the hour can't be all that great for profits. If you have a small machine you should do fine, because it's going to take a while for the stumps, and your machine doesn't cost as much. However by the inch you are getting a set price, which odds are is more than you would make doing it by the hour, and then you benefit by having a bigger machine which will blast right through any stump.
For example, I talked to somebody who does stumps by the hour with a big Rayco. I told him that I get about $5 / inch for stumps which would make a 30" stump $150+. He said he could do that in not even half an hour. So... 1/2 hr x $125 / hr = $62.50 for the stump. $150 x 2 (per hour) = $300 / hr.
Or, I did a job a couple years ago with a big rayco. Cost would have been $2500 or somewhere around there. I did the job in 4 hrs. That comes out to $625 / hr. Doing it per hour even at $150 or $200 / hr would have only been $800 at the most.
