thanks for the digges on the monkey grip but saftey 1st!\
But thanks any ways !
to the guy with the massy tractor is it a compact utility or a older one the skidloader only lifts 1300 so u should be fine with one of these. but for us weekender loggers as steve said its the bomb!
Trent, I've always felt the most comfortable and in control with my thumb wrapped around the grip as opposed to the way you're doing it in the two photos. My reasoning for suggesting it to any and all is "safety first".
Welcome.
Thank you for not whipping out the hydraulic cutter attachment and spanking the bejesus out of Steve's 2100. That would have been too embarrassing for the young fella.
John,
Steve here... The 2100 is faster than my 090, in little wood doing tymed cuts with the same bar and chain. The modified 2100 i have with the pipe, V12 reeds and 191 Tilly, runs about .3 of a second slower than my 088KD with the pipe, in 11 inch cedar rounds. The 2100 still has stock porting, and compression. The 090 is bone stock, but I defeated the governor.
Steve
I'am with Glens on the left hand thumb and keep mine positioned around the bar.I also never tend to hug or touch/contact the saw with my right hip and body in the cut.
How hot was that 28" Stihl bar getting in the cut?I would think a 7 horse Stihl could walk thru a Maple like that without a problem.
thanks for the ifo and the pics are great from steve as always.
as for the thunb thing i feel its up to the operator as to were his thumb is but as you and i said saftey first! but is you do the wood beprepared to get or give the damage qute for the day!!!!
tiyrent, Welcome to the forum. Your question is way off topic of this thread but the answer is NO. The 020 is a German designed product and the 019 is Virgina Beaches abortion. The only parts that interchange to my knowledge are the bar, chain and sparkplug. I heard a story from a Stihl corporate (Germany) employee, it seems a european saw shop was robbed of it's ENTIRE saw inventory save for one model..............the 019T , the fact that the thieves didn't take the 019's was proof that they were knowldgeable proffesionals!
I always keep my "juggler" vein zipped im my pants when I`m running a saw.
Good point though Mike. That 660 can easily generate enough reactive force to kick back and rip itself right out of his grip when he`s holding it like that. This isn`t just theory, it`s been proven hundreds if not thousands of times and normally resulting in serious injury or death. A friend of mine in high school permanently altered his face using the monkey grip on a chainsaw that kicked back.
BTW, it also looks like he`s making bug dust. No wonder the old Homie is able to spank him.
thanks for the tips on the grip i due watch that more know then before but with these big hands the chain brake goes first but the smack in the head could hurt a bit but you know they say no pain no wood gets cut!!!
