Will be starting to mill under a very tight budget. I have a good running Super Wiz 80 gear drive with a 42" hardnose bar. Will this work adequately to start off? i'm looking to order a conversion sprocket to run a .404 milling chain. Anyone have experience with the Carlton milling chains from ebay? Supposed to be the same as Granberg. Also wondering what the opinions of the Panther mill off ebay was vs the Alaskan. Will be using a DIY drip style aux oiler. Thanks for any input.

I'm thinking of constructing a DIY aux oiler for my stihl ms660 with a 42" bar for milling. I'd love to see what you came up with. Can you provide pics and possibly advice for someone in the same boat? Thanks!

I had a Super 77 gear drive, until someone wanted it more than me, and took it. I still have a roll of brand new chain for it. I've been milling with my Homelite Super 1050 for a few years and it works OK. The only problem is it's kinda slow with about a 6000 RPM max. I think my old Super 77 had a 2:1 reduction. So that slows the chain down more and increases the torque. It will work, but it may be a bit slow in bigger wood. I was really pumped up to see the old 77 mill. It had a 42 in bar also. Would love to see some video of your super 80 milling. Good luck, Joe.
